3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque, nearly black pour. Vanishing mocha head. Aroma of smoky Belgian yeast. A more complex flavor than anticipated based on the nose. Roasted, charred, a little bitter. Some dark fruit notes with buried caramel undertones. Pretty well balanced. Slick and flat with a long, dry finish. Lingering alcohol. Pretty solid Stillwater offering.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Pours almost jet black with a creamy tanned head. Smell of roasted malts, caramel, some fruity esters, coffee and mocca. Moderate sweet, roasty, dark malts, chocolate and coffee, some milky flavors, fruity tones, dried frutis. Nice complexity, moderate bitter finish with earthy tones and ash. After some sips i find hints of chili and smoke. Very nice

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 14C. Black with a tan head that fades to a coat quickly but never quite disappears. Earthy aroma with dark berries and grapes, roasted barley, some Coke. Taste is much sweeter than expected and while it’s not heavy it is insistently mouthfilling. Roasted and earthy flavours, some chocolate, star anise and pepper, some brine, dark berries/ wine. Lowish carbonation about right where I like. Interesting and good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
A nearly opaque black pour with a big tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves good lacing. Aroma is dark fruit forward with figs and plums along with hints of chocolate, coffee and savoriness. Taste has dark fruit and some molasses sweetness. Mid palate there is a grainy roastiness, some dark chocolate, mild coffee and a hint of smoke and earthiness. Finishes with a little sweetness and roasty bitter. Lighter bodied than most stouts with a crisp and higher carbonation also. Big flavorful stout with nicely integrated flavors and mild sweetness that is a compliment to the darker flavors.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
@ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque dark brown, thick tan head cover, streaks of lace. Aroma is musty closet and dark malt, somehow appealing. Taste is rich roasted malt with overtones of dark chocolate and coffee. It builds through a solid palate, adding yeast and burnt toast and earth, finally deciding there is enough bitter to balance and letting that linger in a prolonged finish. A really solid stout. Highly recommended.

Tap @ Fermentoren, Cph. Pours deep opaque black with a small, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has chocolate, licorice, light roasted, soft nuttiness. Medium, prickly carbonation, great dry and very creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is elegant, soft chocolate, great licorice, soft astringent roastiness. Great balance with good malty bitterness and some salt to finish. Yum!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 355ml bottle on 17/6/2014. Pours black with a smallish head. The aroma is a touch odd, with musty basement and earthy notes most prominent, with a bit of chocolate and caramel in the background. In the mouth, and you get dark chocolate, doughy yeast, some soy, and a moderate but lingering roasty bitterness. The carbonation is a touch above medium and the texture is a little creamy. Described on the bottle as an ’untraditional stout’, it certainly is a little different and quite tasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Midnight brown, opaque and muddy with no evident carbonation and a thinning, rocky tan head that manages a generous lace. Pasty, chalky, mineral tinged nose showcasing more than enough burnt grain and damp kelp, brine and rust/blood. Similar on the palate. More rust and blood than burnt grain but it is black patent still that dominates this one. Salty kelp, dust, earth and ash fill out the rest. A tangy, tart, estery malt sweetness tickles the side of the tongue whilst there is an astringency to the swallow which melds with it and gives it some depth. Husky, rusty length with little of that alcohol at all to tease. Body is surprisingly light, almost featherweight and it sits lean in the stomach so wouldn’t cause a problem in bulk. Carbonation a mere prickle to the front of the tongue, vinous and still from then on south. There is enough here to make it interesting, but it’s far from complex. I do like the overall result though. A little rough and rustic, and definitely unique. A nice drop! (12fl.Oz, Bottled on 01/02/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
