3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at Bisq, 11/14/15.
Medium to medium light amber, lightly hazy, with an off-white head atop that is small and shows fairly strong retention.
Dough, big fruity esters (pineapple, peach) and some light cellar/mustiness all do signify a pretty solid Belgian ale base. Botanicals are well-controlled in the nose, with the earthiness of the heather and chamomile really complementing the malt and yeast. No alcohol, no flaws.
Was warned by the bartender that it was sweet, albeit not cloyingly so. I was very pleasantly surprised that, while it is certainly a step up on the sweetness ladder from the classics, it’s not overly sweet or too sweet by any means. Not to mention, this was never billed as any attempt to clone the classic saisons. Anyways, a medium to medium-full body displays mostly tight carbonation, lots of honey, touches of caramel and an earthy, drying effect from the heather and chamomile. Lavender and dandelion do not contribute any astringency, and most likely help the overall balance. It’s really not all that spicy, anyways, and there is a blurred line between the yeast derived esters and phenols and the spice-derived ones. A very interesting creation and quite flavorful and filling without coming off heavy or overdone. As some sort of spiced Belgian amber ale, I think it works very nicely.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Deep gold to orange with a small white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Belgian yeast nose with some light herbs, grass, lemongrass and floral notes. Taste is fairly yeast-driven with some light tartness on the palate. Soft carbonation with good mouthfeel. Finish is a little short-lived. Not bad.

Flasche, 0,35. Golden, ganz leicht trübe, kaum Schaum. Duft nach Spaghetti Bolognese - warum auch immer. Gemüsig vielleicht. Süßer Antrunk. helles Brot, etwas Litschi, süße Stachelbeere. Weiches Mundgefühl.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz single bottle from Molly’s Spirits. Hazy orange appearance with one finger of beige foam, mostly dissipating. The aroma is strong lavender and floral notes with toasted grain, herbs, grass, light cinnamon and a light peppery spice. Similar flavor, the adjuncts seem pretty overpowering and it’s hard to detect any base beer. Mild to moderate bitterness with a light dry, lingering finish. The mouth experience is a medium body with a fluffy soft feel and average carbonation. It gets a little better as it warms but it’s kind of hard to drink very much of this at first. It took me a while to finish. Pairing: Widespread Panic - Love And Happiness > Love Tractor, 10/13/2007, Loveland, CO

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Backlog rating. Keg at Kings Arms tap takeover, London. It pours a clean amber color with small off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet and malty, spicy with light yeast action, cinnamon, dried apricots. Taste has some more Belgian yest, spices, plastic, apricots, starch. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, just too sweet for a spring saison.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brewed at ’t Hofbrouwerijke. Bottle at home. Gusher. Hazy amber with small off white head. Massive cinnamon up front, glühwein, bananabread, lots of caramel, raisins, some yeast. Medium sweet and light herbal biutter. Medium bodied with slick feel and under medium carbonation (even though this was quite the gusher). Spring? I don’t get any spring at all, this beer tastes very close to my girlfriends glühwein, massive christmas spices here. But I actually quite enjoy it.
