COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the first edition of the Stillwater Import Series I traveled to the village of Beerzel, located in the Antwerp province of Belgium. Here I teamed up with brewmaster Jef Goetelen to craft an authentic Belgian version of my liquid interpretation of the Spring season. A recipe originally contrived a few years prior as a collaboration brew with my good friend Paul Kretzer. The base is German barley & wheat, with a touch of Belgian aromatic; accented with grassy hops and an array of spring botanicals (heather, chamomile, lavender, & dandelion). Like a fresh meadow in spring.

Bottle to tasting glass. Lots of bubbly foam! Amber/ medium brown color. Great nose & flavors- spicy, slight Belgian funk, wheat, mild bitterness, finishing very dry. Excellent saison!

Great beer from a great brewer. Has your Belgian backbone, the full effervescence and tangyness. Fruits in the aroma, some lemon and grass.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Floral, citrusy, stone fruit, slight graininess. Very fruity. I really dig this beer.

Medium gold, light haze, thin off-white head. Aroma is floral (roses), perfumy, bready/biscuity malt, very light orange note. Flavor of dry, biscuity malt, light earthy cellar character, lightly spicy, clean dry finish.

Herbal, melon, licorice, funky old pharmacy cellar yeast. Light copper with fading head. Herbal drops. Fizzy, dry. Funny beer with really special aroma.

copper color tan frothy head, cloudy. carbonation very low, would like a bit more in this style. Herbal spicey, mulled cider stuff going on. Not a huge fan.

11.2oz bottle at Brasserie V. Kind of a gusher, big soapy head, bronze-orange body, looks unfiltered. Obviously Stillwater excels at high ABV Saisonish beers, and his is no exception. Effervescent carbonation. light and fluffy body. Lots of herbal tones, perfume, tea notes. Lemon-lime, pear. Very unique, somewhere between a Saison and a tweaked out herb bomb. Dry and quite zesty, very refreshing, with some mellow, fruity ginger in the finish. Unique edges. Complex but easy.

Bottle from Proof. Clear amber pour with a thick frothy tan head. Very herbal, floral and aromatic with fresh sage, white pepper and I can definitely pick up the chamomile and lavender. All the above mentioned flavors come through in the taste with a balancing sweet bready malt character and banana yeastiness on the end. Medium, slightly oily body with smooth carbonation. Pretty solid beer that’s not overly herbal or spicy. Good spring time beer.

Pours mostly clear burnt orange auburn with some off white head. Smells of toasted bread with a mix of herbs with some sweetness. The flavor is sparkling sweetness with the herbs laying and interesting ground work. Dandelion and chamomile jump at first with a flowery earthy prominence, the blend leaves a chrysanthemum like feel with lingering sweetness and earthy grainy palate. Nice Belgian amber ale, after a while the herbs blend and become less pervasive and more a part of the beer. Nice brew but chalky and the herbs are at time pretty distracting or not fitting.

Pour is a murky brown with a average white head. Aroma is sweet and herbal with a lot of fruity yeast. Flavor is candi sugar with some herbal tea and I do get a bit of lavender. Finish is some caramel malt and wild honey. This was different with all the botanicals, there is probably a lot more in here than I can detect, but still very tasty.

on tap Hazy brown with whitish froth. Nose is honey and yeast with a plethora of floral notes. Medium body with a foamy mouthfeel. Taste is honey, green banana, lemon-lime and grass. Finishes with bitter yeast and green tea
