For the first edition of the Stillwater Import Series I traveled to the village of Beerzel, located in the Antwerp province of Belgium. Here I teamed up with brewmaster Jef Goetelen to craft an authentic Belgian version of my liquid interpretation of the Spring season. A recipe originally contrived a few years prior as a collaboration brew with my good friend Paul Kretzer. The base is German barley & wheat, with a touch of Belgian aromatic; accented with grassy hops and an array of spring botanicals (heather, chamomile, lavender, & dandelion). Like a fresh meadow in spring. (now currently brewed at Two Roads in CT)

This was suburb! Love the spice! Excellent stat and finish. Nice aroma and the label really is dramatic. It made me really want to try the beer!

Pour is brown with huge head. Nose is explosive citrus and spice. On the palate it is gorgeous with nice hop/malt balance and touches of fig, corriander, and more.

A deep orange hazy unable to see through it. Very active lasting head. A herbal tartness lays over aromatic Woody hops in the smell. So smooth the soft herbs coat your tongue all taking their turn to make a quick appearance but then blend back into the whole. Soft and velvet on the palate.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2013 Complex aroma gushing with lavender (stuck with me, and took me several days to identify) interplays with sparkly, warming sweet ginger and apricot flavors, also with slight peppery note like grains of paradise or from the yeast. Carbonating is moderately high and there’s a mineral softness (like a hint of mud or tin, but with finesse) that brings it all to a lush finish. Ready for next sip.

Great beer from a great brewer. Has your Belgian backbone, the full effervescence and tangyness. Fruits in the aroma, some lemon and grass.

Very nice, unique clove/floral smell upon opening. Good color and carbonation. Light rounded flavor profile good for fall or spring days. Chai tea taste with a good mix of citrus and fruit flavor. Very enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
