COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the first edition of the Stillwater Import Series I traveled to the village of Beerzel, located in the Antwerp province of Belgium. Here I teamed up with brewmaster Jef Goetelen to craft an authentic Belgian version of my liquid interpretation of the Spring season. A recipe originally contrived a few years prior as a collaboration brew with my good friend Paul Kretzer. The base is German barley & wheat, with a touch of Belgian aromatic; accented with grassy hops and an array of spring botanicals (heather, chamomile, lavender, & dandelion). Like a fresh meadow in spring. (now currently brewed at Two Roads in CT)

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2013 Complex aroma gushing with lavender (stuck with me, and took me several days to identify) interplays with sparkly, warming sweet ginger and apricot flavors, also with slight peppery note like grains of paradise or from the yeast. Carbonating is moderately high and thereís a mineral softness (like a hint of mud or tin, but with finesse) that brings it all to a lush finish. Ready for next sip.

On tap at magnolias at the mill in purceville it is a clear Holden color with a slight head. The aroma is of yeast and the taste is sweet and then goes into a root beer flavor that finishes bitter sweet

On draft at Magnolias at the Mill. Pours a a clear gold with an off white head. Aroma of cloves and allspice. Herbal flavors. Slight bitter finish.

Stillwater Of Love & Regret has a thin, white head, a hazy, gold appearance, and very little lacing left behind. The aroma is of spices, so the drinker will imagine being in a gift store. Taste is of those spices, again, with candle wax (think of Shipyard Pumpkinhead, as a point of reference), and underlying malt & wheat, and not the least bit alcohol. Bitterness with this beer is negligible. Mouthfeel is light to medium and prickly, and Stillwater Of Love & Regret finishes mild, spicy, and decently drinkable. RJT

On tap. Comes a somewhat cloudy gold with a small white head. Aroma of floral, citrus, and spice. Taste is lemon, floral, yeast, grass, and spice. Interesting.

BTLD 04/16/14. Nose very floral with a spicy undercurrent, light and sweet wheat with a lavender and rose hip base, sweetness as if sorghum or another grain-type adjunct was used, extremely girly and aromatic without reeking of perfume silage. Lemon peel, lemongrass, too. Cloudy sunny yellow-golden with a white head. Taste very fresh and zesty, adds citrus to those well-defined botanicals, touches of myrtle and vanilla, tangelo, etc. Sweet with basically no bitterness, even the herbal mouthfeel is swallowed up by the wheat-and-sweet. Mild carbonation but still very refreshing, medium body with a citric aftertaste. Very well done.

Love and regret is much more about regret, than any type of love. Wayyy over spiced like an amateur brewery trying to be big and hardcore. Sure the underlying beer ainít bad, but when you are this over the top. No one cares.

Bottle (12 oz). Clear golden with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is quite spicy with lavender, chamomile, floral presence, cereals, grass and lemon. Taste is also quite spicy with the same features as aroma and light acidity. Medium body. Prickly carbonation. Dry finish. Moderate lingering spicy finish. Not my favorite from Stillwater because the spices take too much / all the place. Itís definitely tasty and the spices are showcased, but the drinkability is average at best. Balance isnít too bad considering the ingredients.

Not bad orange like pour. Floral and citrus aroma. Lots of chamomile and floral taste with lemon and orange. Light body moderate carbonation. Decent.

Bottle - hazy gold with pretty much no head/lace - nose is heavy with the adjuncts used, especially the chamomile and lavender - there is also some dusty yeast and moderate phenolics, lint musk - flavor is very sweet and heavy on the chamomile, with some dandelion as well - tastes like sweet herbal tea, really - strong honey flavors throughout - some grassy hops arrive late, along with moderate saison yeast rustic character, some dusty, earthiness - kind of disappointing.

Bottle... Clear, deep, mahogany pour with a small, creamy, white head. I canít smell much of anything here at all. Full-bodied with laid back carbonation. The flavor is sweet, port-like and boring. Any floral, herbal or spicy components are long gone. Not bad. Not good. Cleanly brewed, so thereís something.
