Bottle, dark cola pour with reddish hues, aroma is "fruity roast". Flavor is like a light crisp coffee, like a stout but lighter mouthfeel. Non complex but I think that’s why I like it. Rating #6

On tap @CBC13. Dark brown with light brown head. Aroma with yeast, funk, and hibiscus flowers. Taste of dark malts, funk, lactic notes and more hibiscus. Fresh, tangy and sweet impression, nice.

Sample @ CBC 2013. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The aroma’s roasted malt, Belgian farmhouse yeast. Brown sugar. Dark fruits. The taste is mild herbal bitterness. Some candied apple. A bit of slick diacetyl. Plum and pear jelly. Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall, OK.

A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a massive, four-finger thick, light brown colored head. The beer is a dark, concentrated brown color that shows a touch of ruby-amber hues around the edges when held up to the light. The aroma has a fully, toasted, nutty, dark straw leaning, malt character. This is backed by a supporting fruitiness that smells of hibiscus, berries, fresh red grapes, as well as a soft musty note, perhaps a touch of clove, and even a touch of cocoa powder in the finish.

The flavor is a nice mix of fruit and toasted / dark malt; flavors of hibiscus, red grapes, currants, roasted dark malt, touches of cold coffee, roasted cocoa, nutty dark malt, burnt straw, and touches of bitter roast character. The body is light, but does have a soft viscosity to it that coats the palate just a bit, before being dried out by roasted / burnt malt notes in the finish. There is a soft mustiness here that accentuates both the malt and fruit, soft, slightly medicinal phenolics in the finish.

This is a nice beer, it has a really good balance between the hibiscus, the dark malt and the light yeast character. A nice dark interpretation of a Saison that disappears quickly.

Overly carbed right off the bat. Strong malt character is way too sweet. Effervescence ruins the mouthfeel and overall sensation. Spicy, yet still too sweet. Pass.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Lively pour, with a bubbly brown head topping a dark brown body. Yeast and funk dominate the aroma. The palate in turn is dominated by vinous dark malts, lightly funky with some vague lactic notes. Nice enough, but I don’t get any berries or floral elements.
