2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen
Balck color with creamy head. The aroma is sweetish and stale (pond water), overripe fruits, candeish, it reminds me of some poor Dutch Abbey Ale. Good body structure; strange flavor, not real roasted malts, instead some liquorice and bubble-gum; very light yeast spices; sweetish; stale pond water impression; no bitterness.
Classic failed American attempt to brew a Saison, this time more vicious.

Decent saison. Not as overpoweringly spicy as some saisons. Very dark and faintly fizzy.

Whooooo. Had this in tap and it was better than out the bottle. This is out the bottle.
Aroma is unbalanced. Licorice. Cinnamon. Really not fruity. Now that it’s warmer... Never has a beer smelled more like acetone and freshly paint nails. A complete disaster.
Looks purple color with little tan head.
Taste is like the aroma. Super bitter licorice. Yeasty. Dry fig. Hand soap. Car oil.
Aggressive and dry on the palate.
On tap this was killer fruity balanced by this earthy notes. Here in the bottle it’s just super dry and bitter and licorice. Gotta be a bad bottle. This is beyond drinkable.

Tap. Very dark pour with a spotty frothy light beige head. Malty, berries, and herbal. Unique flavor and pretty good overall.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Good Dog. Dark indeed. Poured an opaque black with white foam. Not looking in any way like a Saison. Dark bitter floral tea flavors with a notable spicy hop bite. African violets. Watery chocolate. Chipotle. Liquorice. Rotted vegetation. Burnt thistles. Blood orange spice. Feels completely off the map. Points for that - but cannot see myself drinking this a lot.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY. I had ordered one of their lighter saisons but the keg had kicked. Poured a dark opaque purple/brown. Definitely has a fruity berry sweetness, maybe blackberries, blackcurrant, something. I didn’t get the flowers as noted in the brewer notes.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a translucent brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of sweet molasses and dark fruits, hint of yeasty esters. Taste is much more toward the peppery esters with a hint of dark fruit. Spicy finish, light carbonation, interesting.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brewed in Belgium by a brewer from Maryland, interesting beer with a yellowish beige, mousse-like, firm and stable head and a very dark burgundy colour, nearing to black, clouded. Aroma strongly and very invitingly perfumed, liquorice, dates, Belgian chocolates, cloves, kahlua, old port wine, rosemary, mango, bourbon... Taste of dark fruits and honey and thus sweetish in onset, resinous mouthfeel, rounded, nutty malt base which in the end even evolves into a coffee- and chocolate-like toasted bitterishness, even a hint of charcoal, finishing in a grassy hoppiness and some bourbon-like, warming but not astringent alcohol. Very interesting beer but I fail to see how this can be called a ’dark saison’ - more of an imperial porter to me.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A black to very deep mahogany body sits beneath a fading frothy smooth light khaki head which dissipates to a very thin ring
Glowing notes of berry and earth with citrus accents accentuated by dark malts, yeasty characteristics blend and mellow, herbal and somewhat woody with a general sense of cellar, all on a slightly sticky, medium body offering a moment of mildly prickling carbonation, a layer of candied sugar builds on the finish, herbal and alcoholic characteristics control the residual contrasting with the dark malts to create a somewhat mouthwatering exit, the label does a great job communicating the experience
medium intensity, mild complexity, generally smooth transitions, preferred this on the cooler side, which allowed the brighter notes to shine while holding back the herbal notes and sugary component
