3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Deep brown, large frothy light beige head, sticky lacing.   Dusty aroma, faint fig and dark pitted fruit nose.   Musty and spritzy on the tongue, faint dark pitted fruit, airy breadiness, a bit of faint horse blanket and general musty barnishness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, and spritzy.   Musty, dusty, soft dark pitted fruit and horse blanket like finish.   Dark Saison is right, but it finishes light and without too much flair.   Seems decent, but its not anything special.   Enjoyable, dusty with spritzy dark pitted fruit.   Never comes across to me as a Saison, instead a very bubbley Belgian Ale.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brewed in Belgium by a brewer from Maryland, interesting beer with a yellowish beige, mousse-like, firm and stable head and a very dark burgundy colour, nearing to black, clouded. Aroma strongly and very invitingly perfumed, liquorice, dates, Belgian chocolates, cloves, kahlua, old port wine, rosemary, mango, bourbon... Taste of dark fruits and honey and thus sweetish in onset, resinous mouthfeel, rounded, nutty malt base which in the end even evolves into a coffee- and chocolate-like toasted bitterishness, even a hint of charcoal, finishing in a grassy hoppiness and some bourbon-like, warming but not astringent alcohol. Very interesting beer but I fail to see how this can be called a ’dark saison’ - more of an imperial porter to me.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A black to very deep mahogany body sits beneath a fading frothy smooth light khaki head which dissipates to a very thin ring
Glowing notes of berry and earth with citrus accents accentuated by dark malts, yeasty characteristics blend and mellow, herbal and somewhat woody with a general sense of cellar, all on a slightly sticky, medium body offering a moment of mildly prickling carbonation, a layer of candied sugar builds on the finish, herbal and alcoholic characteristics control the residual contrasting with the dark malts to create a somewhat mouthwatering exit, the label does a great job communicating the experience
medium intensity, mild complexity, generally smooth transitions, preferred this on the cooler side, which allowed the brighter notes to shine while holding back the herbal notes and sugary component

Draught > Mikkeler Bar, SF. Ordered this out of the blue. Took a chance that the herbs and berries would balance out the roasted grains and they do. Wish it had more carbonation though---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at bistro on bridge. Pours clear brown with a small off white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is quite floral, light roast. The taste is big on the hibiscus, a bit of sweetness, Tastes like you bit a flower.

Head nearly filled my pint glass - took three tries to get it in the glass. Large particles distract from the otherwise outstanding appearance. Flavor is really good for a saison - burnt caramel, fruity and spicy.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours pretty much black. Large fluffy tan head. Aroma is malty. The burnt sugar is lovely. Caramel. Some fruitiness. Dark fruity. Berries. Yeast. Mild spice. Some chocolate. Very interesting. Flavor is similar but even more complex. Great roastiness through the finish with the mild spice, fruit, and light to moderate alcohol. Quite dry, woody, cobwebs. Floral. Lighter Medium body. Sweetness to balance. I really got a kick out of this. Creative, interesting, and very enjoyable. Impressive.

Smells a little like a wine, but heavier. Dark and fruity like a wine. Strong, rich, succulent. Rich taste, a slight bit bourbon-y. Spices, malt, a sweetness, light fruit.
