Draft. Pours a hazy straw with a small white head. Smells and tastes like something of a wit beer. Quite herbaceous, some lemon, clove. Some fruity esters. A bit sweet. Mild funk. Light body. Tasty.

Pours blond without much head or lacing. Some initial florals and lots of malt. Tastes a little boozy, even though alcohol isn’t super high, but I guess that’s what they are going for here. Finishes a little sour. Nothing special here. On tap at Blue Monk.

Farmer’s Cabinet, Philly tap: Pours a hazy orange/yellow with a white head. Aroma is spice, yeast, and fruit. Taste is slightly sweet, dessert spice type stuff. Body is pretty nice. This ain’t nothing memorable, but it is somewhat unique. Stillwater has done better.

Draft at Farmers Cabinet. Apparently meant to be paired with the Genever so am having both together. Beer poured light amber with a tight frothy head. The Genever (which I had never had before) is a pungent gin - full of juniper berries (and alcohol - 92% proof apparently.) The beer poured a light amber with a nice fizzy white head. The citrus notes pull out more in combination. Also some sour too, though again with the gin along side. Potent combination. Beer has some wheaty ester notes but also a sweet/sour fruity quality that does work well with the gin. Thinking that the common notes in the beer would seem less extraordinary without its expected companion. If possible, do try the pairing in one sitting. Both might seem unexceptional otherwise. A grand adventure indeed!

Pour is a hazy blond with a large white head. Aroma is dry pale malts and some spicy hop. Flavor is a light spice and fruit with some estery yeast. Finish was dry but tart. No frills here. This was listed as a saison when I sampled it.

Tap at Barcade. Hazy golden orange pour. The nose is fruity. Notes of honey, orange and gingery spice. A sort of orange juice flavour that I’m not sure I really dig. Spicy with some clovey character but the malt is really too pronounced here. Sweet and a little bit under attenuated feeling. Full palate with a distinctly sugary flavour. Comes across like an American trying to brew a Belgian style - which is very odd because I know what Brian can do with Belgian stuff. A pretty big miss for me.

On draft in a tulip. Pours amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, spicy yeast, a little spice/light fruit, and floral hops. Average texture. A pretty good beer.

Draught at the Barcade, New York, NY.
Yellow orange hazy colour with tiny white head. Belgian yeast, clove, spices and mild fruits in aroma. Flavour is Belgian yeast, wheat, some hops and clove. Tasty. Quite true to Witbier.

Draught @ [ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012 ] @ Spartas Lokaler, Faelledparken in Osterbro, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Clear medium orange yellow colour with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, fruit, light to moderate hoppy, apricot notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, apricot, yeasty, hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120512]
