Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige to brown head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit smoky, ashes, caramel, mocha and coffee, sourish, sugary, bit funky, woody. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity, red sour berries, toast, mocha, coffee, woody bitterness, funky. Aftertaste: sourish, tobacco, earthy, bit smoky, red sour berries. Not really my thing, but it’s an interesting experiment, that’s for sure.

Draught at Delirium Loft Brussels. Acidic, lactic nose, vinegar, chocolate, cherries. Great, complex nose. Pitch black with a super fine tan head. Flavors of chocolate, wood, vinegar, yogurt. Very tangy, lots of chocolate. Good, not completely exciting, but good.

Bottle (500 ml). Reddish brown with a small beige head and light lacing. Aroma is intensely winey with oak, roasted malt, brettanomyces and light chocolate... very interesting. Taste is slightly sweet with red wine, oak, roasted malt, light tartness (but it’s way more vinous than tart), fruits and chocolate. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Winey mouthfeel. Dry finish. Really complex and intensely winey. That’s not a Stout, but that’s really good and pretty unique!

Bottled@PBF VIII. Black colour, small beige head. Aroma is tart wood, some herbs and wooden notes. Flavour is liquorice, tart wood, some liquorice and quite big on the sourness. Interesting attempt, but a bit too strange for me.

Aroma has sour berry notes, some oak and bilberries. Flavour has cherries, some bilberries and woodyu notes. Also some ashy notes at the end of the glass. A battle of stout and oud bruin. And unfortunately the last one is winning.

Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Aroma of vinous notes, wood, roasty malts, hints of tart berries and sourness. Taste is sweet, vinous, tartish and roasty with hints of wood, sour berries and red wine. Finish is vinous and tartish with hints of berries and wood. Okay, but a bit onedimensional.

Pours deep dark ruby red color with a small off-white head. Aroma of sour fruits, dark berries, some wood and hops. Flavor of sour dark berries, faint malts, and some bilberries. Sour and somewhat one-dimensional but excels at that.

Bottled at PBF. Near black, small beige head. Tart vinous nose qwith some slight licorice shining through. Medium-full bodied with rounded spritzy mouthfeel. Intense vinous woosy flavours. Lightly acetic with notwe of coffee. Dominated by the barrel flavours.

My Bottom Line:
Vocal brettanomyces is met by black grapes and green wood leading to a tart and vinous finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the pure darkness.
-Some earthiness appears in the aftertaste alongside the prevalent wood and wild yeast.
-The flavor profile, although satisfying for wild ale lovers, gets linear quickly.
-This is intense yet the dryness and prickly carbonation make everything almost easygoing.
-In the same ’powerful, dark and wild’ category, I have to say I prefer Jester King’s Funk Metal so far... This Gypsy Tears lacks refinement compared to the JK brew.

Brown colour, firm beige head. Aroma of brett, caramel, berries, roasted malts and a hint of liquorice. Light sweet, light sour flavour, red berries and cocoa. Light sour finish, malts, cacao, bret and red wine.
