3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MrChopin (2527) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 9, 2011
dark brown, wispy white head. Nose is pumpernickel, peach and plum, moderate manure and smoke but not as burnt. Flavor, sweeter, richer, bit of chocolate cake, metal, light manure in end, sugar clings to teeth at end. Nicely carbonated, more full than most smoked beers.

Tap at Max’s of Fells Point. The pour is a clear brown sienna with a larger tan head. Sheets of lace. Nose is hoppy, spicy, rustic, with heavy Bamberg smoked malt and applewood bacon. Taste is spicy, malty, nice bacon fat component. None of this half assed smoke BS. This is the real deal. Very nice.

Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a large, off-white and thick head. Aroma of smoked wood, birch leaves and caramel malts. Flavour of roasted, smoked malts, bitter hops, wood and birch leaves. Medium bodied, thick mouthfeel, quite high carbonation and a dry finish of alcohol, smoke and hops. Not the most aggressive smoked beer but enjoyable.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.
The beer is chestnut brown with a filmy, khaki colored head. The head settles and holds around 1/8" for the duration. The aroma is smoke, campfire, bacon, char. Very nice - a pleasure to inhale. As expected, a lot of smoke in the flavor. A pretty straightforward beer. The feel is thick, oily, and coats the palate. I enjoyed this and would certainly have it again.

Bottle, 04/25/2012. Pours solid dark brown, almost maroon, with beige head, settles to creamy base with copious lacing. Aroma is heavy smoke and wood, slightly salty peat component, mixed with clear piney hops, other spices, overwhelming a light roast/chocolate base. Taste begins with dark roasted bread malts, oily pine hops, opening up to BBQ smokiness with light sweetness, finishes bitter. Moderate palate but smooth, drinks great. Wow, super interesting. Heavy metal BBQ in a pine forest indeed.
