The Stillwater Sensory Series is a collaboration between Stillwater Artisanal and singular musical artists. In this first collaboration, Stillwater works with Lower Dens to make an ale based on an interpretation of their song, "In the End is the Beginning." On the bottle itself, a QR code will link to an exclusive Lower Dens performance of the song. Ultimately, this is a true artistic collaboration that aims to create a full sensory experience - sound, sight, smell, touch, and taste. www.stillwatersensory.com

Bottle. Pours a murky gold, nice white head. Nose is floral yeast, light whote grape, bready malt. There is a bit of an aged character going on here - not exactly oxidation, but something is adding that kind of woodiness. Flavor is a bynxh od that floral yeast, some nice lightly toasty malt, a nice twang and some generic old fruit character. Nice enough I suppose but nowhere near as good as something like stateside.

Farm aroma. Big fomay head on cloudy yellow. Not so bad a bite on mouthfeel. Spicy and drinkable.

375 ml. bottle. Top of bottle rimmed with a heavy layer of yeast, which have a heavy taste of pine, resin citrus peel. Pours a thick off white head, which gradually collapses, over a hazy, gold (SRM 5) body.....nose is light colored fruits, with pear, apple tones, light toasted malts, minimal herbal hop notes....taste is slightly bitter to start, with light cereal, toasted barley notes, leading to light colored fruits, and slight spice.....mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol, no astringency, slight acid, fizzy carbonation. The evaluation is based on this particular bottle. This is one of those craft beers where it is almost impossible to figure out what they were aiming for. This is a complete muddle of aroma and flavor, with almost nothing really coming together. it is not worth drinking. BJCP 5/1/9/3/5

Pours amber with a large head. Nose shows saison yeast, soft spicy, floral and pear notes. Flavours include a stronger hibiscus note along with a bit of orange marmalade. Some farmhouse yeast notes remain. Finishes very dry. Carbonation is much too high.

A floral ale not a million miles removed from a saison. Quite a subtle beer and very sessionable. Intriguing appearance: pale gold with extremely busy champagne-like carbonation and a fat head that stayed better than Phar Lap. Unsurprisingly, the aroma is decidedly floral - hibiscus, presumably, although my knowledge of flora is half-baked at best. Very grainy, almost wit-like, with some Belgian yeasty notes. The nose is too restrained to really excite the senses. Medium-bodied and soft in the mouth - not at all prickly considering the visible bubbles. Very rounded flavours - grains, violet candies and faint dried fruit with just a hint of sourness and blue-cheese funk to disrupt what might otherwise be a tad bland. Artisanal indeed. (375ml bottle from Leura Cellars)

JBPortland (1001) - Portland, Maine, USA - JUL 2, 2014
375ml bottle pours hazy dark orange with a finger of head. Nose is musty bready grain, yeast spice, apple, floral citrus. Taste is bready malt, grain, white wine, apple juice, light spice, soft yeast. Finish is dry bready malt, yeasty spice, white grape juice, apple. Ok I guess, but I don’t really know what this beer is trying to be. Underwhelming.

Bottle. Golden pour with white head. Spice, yeast and sweet aromas. Light citrus, yeast, herbal and spice flavors. A little over carbed, otherwise very nice.

Aroma of fresh fruit. Nice thick head. It's quick & impactful on the palate. The flavour is lemon, apple & vanilla. Clean finish, with an ever so slight lingering flavour.
