3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Shows BTLD 07/01/13. This is new to the area and I get a, nearly, 1 year old version. Let’s see if that is good or bad... Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and dark chocolate notes with hints of coffee, dark fruit, yeast and straw. Taste is funky yeast, tart berries, dark fruit, roasted malt, burnt caramel and coffee notes. Body is light-medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Finishes with more yeast and tart fruit notes, roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Maybe some toasted dark bread as well. Nice!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a finger of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is milk and roasted malt, but nicer than that sounds.
The taste has a dull bitterness that borders on metallic with a roasty malt profile towards the end.
The texture is crisp with a lot of fizzy carbonation.
It has a good flavor but the carbonation level was too high.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours very dark brown with three fingers of tan head. Flavor is slight roast. Some yeastiness. A little tartness. Fairly dry. Nice beer but not on a par with some of their others.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap. The black saison is one of my favorite styles, in theory. Opaque black with a respectable beige head. The chocolate malt really balances out the saison yeast. Easy going, with an herbal, earthy undertone. A successful hybrid for sure. Great balance, unique flavor. Very nice.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Even-toned opaque brown black with a dense crema of light brown head. Aroma is rich and raisiny, like a dubbel, but it kinda falls apart in the tasting: thin, grapey, grape-nut sourness and astringency with mild roast in the finish. $3/12oz

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body under a one finger fizzy beige head that retained pretty well. The nose is a mix of Saison yeast, some light roast, licorice, and dark wheat. The flavor is a pretty odd mix of a Saison and Schwarzbier indeed. There’s some dark wheat notes, some thin roast, licorice, a little hint of funkiness towards the finish. Light bodied with fizzy active carbonation. Never that big of a fan of dark Saisons, and this one was even farther away from a traditional Saison.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
pours unclear medium dark brown, red tint, with a nice fluffy beige head, good retention and lacing. cocoa powder, vanilla, spicy yeast, roasted coffee and chocolate, bitter coffee grinds, light tartness - lemony, citric, sourdough bread, soap - slightly perfumey, minty freshness too, belgian spices - candied coriander, pepper, orange peel, licorice. lively to average carbonation, light body, lightly tart and bitter coffee-herbal-grassy-spicy finish. awkward blend of style - will continue to drink them seperately. interesting for sure - as an experiment. obviously disliked it. lemony. soapy. roasty. spicy.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Recent find, black saison. Comes across like a lighter blackbier, with some pepper. Decent enough beer to try, though nothing to grab me.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle in a teku while listening to the cool music - much better than the Series 1 music. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of light tartness, dark malts with a little roastiness, some dark fruits, and light funk and light floral hops. Flavors don’t really blend all that well. Average texture. Sort of weird and could have been done better.
