3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From 341 ml bottle. Pours a mostly clear straw-yellow with a pillowy white head that settles to about one-finger height. Aromas of funk, lemon, cloves, pepper, apple juice and orange zest. Taste starts out with a fruity note with apple and orange before a big lemon zest and pepper bitterness washes through. That lasts right through the back end, giving a sharp spicy finish. Marked spicy aftertaste. Huge flavours. Impressive.

Cloudy piss colour. Aroma is lemony and spice. Flavour is very reminiscent of a Belgian witbier - cloves and fruit. Bitter yeasty finish. Overall, nice saison.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I love saison, I love these refreshing, crispy, tasty beers with a wild and rural touch. This one is a perfect example, adding a complexity which is usually hard to find in the style. Yeasty aroma, orange peel and herbs like anisette too. Mouthfeel with crispy notes to yeast and spices. Great overall. An extraordinary saison, delicious.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle, consumed on 5-11-14. "Bottled 01/07/14." Dry, herbal aroma features scents of champagne, peach, apricot, "Christmas," pine, salt, lemon, tonic water, and seltzer. Quite good and complex saison smell. Poured in two halves. First half is a clear, effervescent gold with a small to moderate amount of beige head. Bright but rather ordinary in appearance. Second half is a hazy tannish brass with longer-lasting and more substantial looking head. Pleasant appearance but not outstanding. Herbal, dry flavor features touches of honey and cream. Lemon and lemon peel elements. Slightly floral and spicily dry. Juicy yeastiness. Dry finish. Good, enjoyable flavor. Light, dull, dry aftertaste. Medium body. Lively, soft, and filling in the palate. Perhaps excessively filling. Nice palate but not great. Stillwater Artisinal Stateside Saison is a good beer overall and strong across the board. It is aromatic, tasty, complex, substantial, and well made. Quite enjoyable.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Gold, lightly effervescent with a short white head. Honey-ish melanoidin-like malt in the nose is overrun by fruity apple / pear / grape juice esters and offending plastic, dried banana and corn whiskey notes. The body is light and the quickly-effervescing carbonation suits well the up-front sweetness, though it seems too sweet across the middle and too bitter in the finish. The quenching effect is nice, but that sweet-bitter play along with the ambient pear / grape juice / paint thinner quality limits this one for me.
