Stateside Saison pays homage to old world tradition while celebrating new world innovation. Naturally brewed with the finest European malts & fresh aromatic hops from the United States & New Zealand. It’s then fermented using a classic farmhouse ale yeast and bottle conditioned to enhance stability. The outcome is a beer of unique design and exquisite taste, showcasing some of the best attributes of modern-day craft brewing. (Brewed by Stillwater @ DOG Brewing Co.)

From a 750ml into a snifter. Pours with an unG-dly amount of head! No lacing though, hmmmmm????? Very, alcoholic, musty, chalky aroma. Not a turn on. Mouthfeel is smooth but overcarbonated. Leaves a mediciney tingle on the tongue and the mouth in general. Decent to good appearance of farm-blond, strawberry-blond with a tinge of red to it. Taste is of chalk, chamomile, grass, grass, grass, bubblegum, alcohol, funk and orange. Overall, a very complex and tasty beer. But it’s just really chalky and overcarbonated. The second Stillwater I’ve been underwhelmed with... especially starting at $10 a bottle. I’ll probably move on to a different brewer for a while until I hear of one that can’t miss... or until someone starts buying my drinks for me.

Bottle with gold wrapper and bottle cap, sampled in Gulden Draak tulip, this ale had a hazy orange pour with some peach skin colors, and delivered a three finger white head that fell to a thick cover within a few moments, the effervescence was good with a fast flowing (lively) center stream and a few stray bubbles elsewhere in the glass, bubbly lacing is sticky and left spots and fingers on the sides of the glass, I saw a medium to dark brown layer of sediment in the bottle, there were aromas of orange and melon fruit, orange zest, some floral notes, and very faint funk and faint powdered sugar sweetness in the background, the flavors were pale malt with orange fruit, orange and lemon citrus, faint grass and spice phenols with a touch of earth herbs, there was some dough in the background, this drink had a touch of pepper after the finish, this drink starts with a light fruit sweetness and finishes dry, the mouth feel is light and easy to drink, the finish is drying on the palate, I found the flavors in this ale to be stronger than the aromas, a nice drinking Saison.

Had on tap @33 wine bar. Pours golden with a thin white head. Aroma is citrus, yeast, grassy and funk. Flavor is much the same. Not a funky as i expected it to be. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Bottle. Orange pour with a lot of white head. Aroma is citrusy with very strong musty and earthy yeast. Flavor is some sweet belgian malt, bananas, but overpowered by the yeast

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2014 Rerate as I think I must have been insane last time. Aroma is fruity, strawberries and cream, herbal, grainy. Really nice. Taste is good and similar to the aroma. Quite bitter, different kind of fruitiness, something tropical maybe, french toast (!). Nice.

Light 10 karat pour with a nice white head. Aroma of yeast, fresh cut grass, and lemon zest. Flavor shows freshly baked bread, an earthiness, herbal qualities, and citrus a companying honey.

Judging by the ratings of others, I guess the pour I had of this beer was totally off. Re-rating to come at a future date... Hazy gold pour with hint of brown, no head. Aroma is spice, hay, yeast, pears. Taste is very spicy, slightly sour, funky, with lasting peppery aftertaste. Body is medium, no carbonation to speak of, sticky mouthfeel. Overall, kinda flat, sticky, and weak.
