Stateside Saison pays homage to old world tradition while celebrating new world innovation. Naturally brewed with the finest European malts & fresh aromatic hops from the United States & New Zealand. It’s then fermented using a classic farmhouse ale yeast and bottle conditioned to enhance stability. The outcome is a beer of unique design and exquisite taste, showcasing some of the best attributes of modern-day craft brewing. (Brewed by Stillwater @ DOG Brewing Co.)

Rating 3,000 (this happened haphazardly) Notes from my backlog: Hazy golden with an off white film of head. Citrusy aroma- some Nelson Sauvin hop notes and biscuit. Lively body with a nice dry flavor. Biscuity, citrusy, white wine vinous notes (Nelson Sauvin hops). with a nice minerally dry back. Long flavors, balanced, nice.

Tasted from the tap on the 08/02/2016.Pours a hazy orange gold with almost no head. Yeasty and soft fruity aroma. Flavour has some spice notes and light fruit. Dry and fresh finish. Next one please!

Stillwater’s Stateside Saison captures the essence of so many lovely things. Malty sweetness, earthy yeast, American and New Zealand hops that are spicy, floral, and tropical. Sweet/sour, juicy/dry, funky/smooth. Stateside Saison plays with all these paradoxical dynamics. The end result is a really well-rounded Saison. So far this is the most straight-forward and predictable brew I’ve had from Stillwater, but it’s highly drinkable, thanks to its superb balance.

Appearance: slightly hazy pale gold with a short, short-lived white head diminishing rapidly to nothing, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: stone fruit, apples, grassy funk, bready yeast. (7/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, mild bitter, mild tart. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate-high carbonation, bone dry moderate bitter and mild tart finish. (3/5) Not sure what the relationship is between this and Cellar Door, but in my opinion this suffered by comparison to Cellar Door. It’s still a nice saison, but doesn’t have the depth and complexity of Cellar Door. The finish is also dryer but a bit harsher, and on the whole it just doesn’t feel as well put together. Good, not great. (14/20)

Pours a cloudy yellow golden color with fizzy white head. Citrus, coriander, other spice, yeast/bread and some light floral notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with wheat and coriander.

Hazy amber pour with a white head and decent lacing. Aroma is citrus, dough, spice, and light bubble gum. Taste follows the nose. Very clean flavors. Light body with soft carbonation.

Draught at TAP in Mong Kok. Pours hazy copper. Thick white ring head. Complicated aroma, very fruity and creamy. Medium palate. Tastes like dessert, not a saison, which is usually thin, dry and peppery.

Cloudy golden with a thin sticky white head. Lovely grassy and herbal hop aroma mixed with a crisp little saison malt profile. Clean and bright flavor with some nuanced herbal bitterness, clean saison mealtimes, a touch of Belgian funk, a little grassy citrus, and a dryish Belgian estery finish with a whisper more of grassy floral hops. Really unique and complex.

Yeasty herbal vegetable garden aroma. Very malty at first then comes the expected citrus and bitter orange rind. Pleasant and light. Much more targeted for a summer day than winter night but very refreshing and tasty.
