Cloudy pale gold pour with a 2 finger, creamy white head. Aroma is bready, fruity and peppery yeast, floral, citrus and spicy hops and a little toast and cereal. Flavor is loaded with pepper and doughy, toasty bread up front followed by some nice, bright citrus, spicy and grassy hops and finishing up with some lasting bready yeast, and spicy, floral and citrus hops. light to medium body, with a neutral entry, dry, slightly chalky feel after that and light to medium carbonation. Good stuff overall, nice hop blend.

Pours a dark chestnut brown color that appears pitch black and opaque in the glass with a one finger, light beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Decent retention with sporadic spotty lacing left behind. Surprisingly huge spicy pumpkin pie presence in the nose with some robust roasted malt and sweet desert-like chocolate notes. It’s Southern Tier so I shouldn’t be that surprised but the aroma is almost as pumpkin forward as Pumpking. I was expecting more stout character by that takes a back seat to the autumnal spices and pumpkin purée. Hints of clove, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon along with pumkin pie filling and roasted pumkin seeds. It takes a while to open up but once it does, there’s subtle roast and sweet malts underneath. Hints of sweet and dark chocolate along with oatmeal and robust coffee bean. Smells very interesting but I wish that the stout notes were a bit stronger. Thankfully the flavor is more of a mix of pumkin and stout notes. Dry and roasted with a robust dark malt presence that’s countered by sweeter malts and strong pumkin pie flavors on the back end. Slightly smokey with burnt sugar and deeply roasted malt but its not acrid or harsh at all. Hints of gourmet coffee, burnt toast, bittersweet dark chocolate and oatmeal followed by sweeter chocolate flavor, toffee and nut before a strong pumpkin ale flavor in the finish. Spicy and sweet with ginger, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg along with pumpkin purée/pie filling, toasted pumpkin seeds and vanilla. Nicely balanced and whereas the aroma felt like a pumpkin beer with subtle stout character, the flavor is more stout-like with lingering pumpkin pie sweetness. ABV is excellently masked, resulting in another dangerously drinkable entry in the Backwater series.

Bottle shared at the Cafe Abseits tasting during the Bamberg Excursion. Many thanks to Cloin for this bottle. Pours orange-gold with a frothy, mostly-white head. Great hop and funk melange. Nice fruity notes coming through, such as melon and grapefruit. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Great balance on the finish, nips of funk, moderate sweetness, more fruits. Great stuff overall.

12 oz. bottle pours a hazy dark golden color with small white head that leaves several rings of lacing. Aroma has honey, Belgian yeast, bread, biscuits, lemon and some floral hops. Taste is bitter upfront despite the honey and yeast. It finishes like a Saisom, with some spices. Body is medium with average carbonation and a slightly sticky/oily mouthfeel. This is an interersting one which is hard to classify but worth another try.

Deep golden color accented by foamy legs and head. Presents itself well but thats where it ends for me personally. Nice citrusy bitterness up front with a finish reminiscent of a saison... and I do not enjoy a saison. I wont be getting this again; it is not a bad beer, just not suited for my palate.
