India pale ales harness the inherent flavor characteristics of hops to bring forward familiar flavors of pine, resin, spice and citrus. In some cases, those botanicals are so potent, they exactly mirror specific edibles. Such is the case with Centennial hops, which hail from the Great Northwest and come across on the palate like a mouthful of citrus fruit. The sensation is amplified with this, the first beer introduced via the Stochasticity Project, a double IPA brewed with Centennial, Chinook and Magnum hops as well as an immense dosing of fresh grapefruit peel. The result is over-the-top bittersweet grapefuit intensity that is at once refreshing and bracing in its citrusy bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with firm white head. Nose is grapefruit as you'd expect, citrus and a honey sweetness. Taste is really bitter! Grapefruit up front and citrus. Bitterness lingers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Serving: 22 oz. bottle. Slightly hazy dark gold pour with a very small white head. Huge citrus nose with lots of grapefruit. West coast bitter and dry on the tongue. Plenty of grapefruit to go around with a long finish. Nice twist on things for Stone, but truly Stone aggressive with the hops.

The Grapefruit Slam IPA pours a mostly clear light orange with a thick frothy ivory head that lasts good while. The aroma is grapefruit, pine with a bit of caramel and bread. The flavor is predominantly grapefruit and pine but caramel and bread is also noticeable. Overall this is a pretty solid beer.

Draft at Madrones in Frederick, MD served in a snifter glass, light orangy-amber color with off-white head. Aroma of heavy grapefruity/piney hops. Taste adds some citrus zest and sweet malt balance. Medium-heavy body, moderate carbonation, sticky with bitter grapefruity finish. Lives up to its name.

Aroma is grapefruit, other citrus hops that are not overwhelming and sweet malt. Very nice golden color with lots of bone colored foam and tiny bubbles rising to the top. Taste is what you would expect - grapefruit and hops. Has a good malt backbone and it needs it as the hops are quite strong. If you prefer citrus hops over pine, this one is for you. Alcohol is well hidden. Itís hard to make a unique IPA anymore, but Stone has done just that.

Pours cloudy golden yellow with low white head. Aroma of grapefruit (duh!), citrus, pine, light peach and mango. Taste is fruity bitter up front, followed by lingering bitter finish, slightly astringent and medicinal. Not much balancing sweetness here. Body is light and crisp with soft carbonation. Oh, and the bitter finish lasts forever.

22oz bottle. Pale orange color, hearty appearance. Smells like a West Coast IPA. Loads of citrus in the nose. Flavor of bitter hops, loads of citrus rind. Lingering bitterness. Lots of bitter flavor, harsh taste. (4127)

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat Pours a clear copper with orange tinge. Big white head. Good lacing. The nose is very very hoppy with lots of grapefruit. Resinous body. Flavor is rich malts with a ton of hops. The grapefruit is dominate but there is tropical fruit. Long dry bitter finish. Simply fantastic.

Meh...this is okay. The name is stupid first off. The beer is extremely average at best. Itís just okay. Some grapefruit juice but not much going on. Taste is okay. Bitter with a little grapefruit, nothing else. Over priced for the taste. Quality isnít a question but the taste isnít there.
