India pale ales harness the inherent flavor characteristics of hops to bring forward familiar flavors of pine, resin, spice and citrus. In some cases, those botanicals are so potent, they exactly mirror specific edibles. Such is the case with Centennial hops, which hail from the Great Northwest and come across on the palate like a mouthful of citrus fruit. The sensation is amplified with this, the first beer introduced via the Stochasticity Project, a double IPA brewed with Centennial, Chinook and Magnum hops as well as an immense dosing of fresh grapefruit peel. The result is over-the-top bittersweet grapefuit intensity that is at once refreshing and bracing in its citrusy bitterness.

Pours cloudy golden yellow with low white head. Aroma of grapefruit (duh!), citrus, pine, light peach and mango. Taste is fruity bitter up front, followed by lingering bitter finish, slightly astringent and medicinal. Not much balancing sweetness here. Body is light and crisp with soft carbonation. Oh, and the bitter finish lasts forever.

22oz bottle. Pale orange color, hearty appearance. Smells like a West Coast IPA. Loads of citrus in the nose. Flavor of bitter hops, loads of citrus rind. Lingering bitterness. Lots of bitter flavor, harsh taste. (4127)

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat Pours a clear copper with orange tinge. Big white head. Good lacing. The nose is very very hoppy with lots of grapefruit. Resinous body. Flavor is rich malts with a ton of hops. The grapefruit is dominate but there is tropical fruit. Long dry bitter finish. Simply fantastic.

Meh...this is okay. The name is stupid first off. The beer is extremely average at best. Itís just okay. Some grapefruit juice but not much going on. Taste is okay. Bitter with a little grapefruit, nothing else. Over priced for the taste. Quality isnít a question but the taste isnít there.

Pours a warm hazy orange, white head. Aroma is massive grapefruit, bitters, sweet caramel, old citrus rind. Super sweet and very much overly bitter at the same time, semi refreshing.. Like chewing grapefruit rind on back end. Med mouthfeel and highly carbonated.

Bottle. Deep golden body with a frothy white diminishing head. Light aroma, especially for a double ipa, of resin, grapefruit and toasted grain. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery/sticky texture, lively carbonation. Bitterness overwhelms other flavors which are pretty much just resin and grapefruit with a hint of orange peel.

Not sure why all the high ratings for this beer. I thought it lacked in the taste department.....great job on the creativity, but lacking in making it all come together, especially on the grapefruit end!

Such a small aroma out of the bottle, but poured out was a blast of pine and grapefruit! This bright orange liquid is heavy with sediment, light on foam and tastes moderately bitter with serious grapefruit and resin. The flavors are very nice until the liquid starts warming. Not a fan of this when itís not ice cold. The refreshment aspect falls off a cliff as soon as it gets a touch of warm. I was hoping for grapefruity freshness but am disappointed in that. The body is nice, medium, with an average fizzle and a long lasting bitter that doesnít ever seem to go away. I actually expected more from Stone on this one.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a white ring. Hoppy aroma, of citrus hops, pine, malt, yeast. Taste is bitter and sweet, of grapefruit and tangerine, citrus hops, yeast, sugar, malt. Lingering grapefruit hops. Very nice.
