1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
9 June 2003 - Light malt aroma. Big head with good retention. Flavour is quite clean with a fair bit of hop. Bland, non-fulfilling the promise of its creatively priced (rip off) $4-20, not sure how much it is these days. Lacks originality, malt, hops, need I go on......... so I won’t.

I thought that this was ok for a small producer, it had spark, bite as well as a good colour and head when poured. It tastes something like the "Chopper Heavy" they put out also, but I find the Chopper a better buzz for your buck!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This stuff ain't so bad. It's pretty boring, but it's clean and nice and far better than the beer it's ripping off (Stella).
Pours with a pretty big, nice head and decent retention. Minus appearance points for biting Stella Artois' label.
Aroma is lightly malty and a bit of grassy hop.
Flavour is quite clean with a fair bit of hop, which tastes like NZ Saaz. It's not brilliant but it's better than a 1.86 beer!

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
This is more of a pilsener than a lager, it hads a grassy hoppy aroma, a harsh bitterness and a metallic finish. Not good.

Stella artois try hard. Skunky. Too rich. Nothing apart from sweetness and mild malt palate. Head dissolved like a fruit tingle in water. Would be a good sessoinal beer if it wasnt so rich and sweet i wont be going back for the free glass with a 6 pack.

Pretty average sort of beer. Like CQC i got free crystals glasses with a beer that was already pretty cheap. I got what i payed for. One dimensional average australian mainstream 'premium' beer. cheers

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2003 This was on special, a 4 pack for $6. It was quite good considering how cheap it was, but I wont be buying it again.

The brewer of this beer was famous for winning home brew competitions. He then moved from that to commercial brewing, working at Scharers at a time when they had 'problems' with their brews. Well, has he taken this curse to stockade. I just don't get the premium crap. It is a beer that is like other beers of its style. Nothing more. Certainly not worth the $3.50 I paid either.

Well, it was the free crystal glasses that 'forced' me to buy this beer. Cost about 2 bucks, so don't know where the other Aussies where buying from. It is yet another premium example of Australian mainstream quality beer, ie. pretty crappy. It definitely has a stale bitterness to it. Bland, boring, but harmless and easily disposed of. I have tasted a lot worse, but when you are hooked with the 'Single Malt' guff, you expect something better.
