3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Picked this up in the single bottle section at Trader Joes for a buck. Completly black pour slight off white head. faint aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Flavor dominated by smoke with a touch of coffee and chocolate. A little thin but not too thin for a stout. Good, not great. Wasnt expecting much but did beat my expectations. But well worth the price.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is a good, solid stout from Trader Joe’s, nothing fancy. I wouldn’t consider it a sweet stout, it’s actually a dry Irish oatmeal stout. I didn’t know that JosephBrau was part of Gordon Biersch, this used to be made by Goose Island a few years ago. Nice appearance, dark brown nearly black with a tan head. Aroma is roasted grain, coffee, and earth. Nice balance of sweet and bitter, slightly sour. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, smooth finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark opaque black with a smallish tan head mostly dissipating. Nose is malt and coffee. Fairly creamy on the palate, the taste is a nice combination of dark roasted malt, coffee, a hint of chocolate with a slightly dry finish. A well down stout that pairs well with brats and burgers on the grill.

Bottle. Opaque dark brown with dark tan spongy head, caramel aroma, sweetish coffee beans-caramel taste, low carbonation, bitter long finish. Very nice and creamy.
Note: The bottle claims that the producer was JosephsBrau Brewing Co of San Jose, CA.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle purchased from Trader Joe’s in Glen Ellyn, IL., and poured to a Czech-pils glass, displaying a darkest brown color with some ruby highlighting, brownish tan, bubbly foam to the head, and curtainy cling to the lacing. The aroma was roasted, malty, with a touch of cardboard, back of the freezer scent, a bit of molasses, baker’s chocolate, and left on the burner/day old coffee. The taste was similar notes, with the light cardboard persisting, some tanniny astringency, medium, earthy hop bitterness, and lively enough carbonation to project these latter notes well enough to tickle the tongue. Medium+ bodied, with some creaminess to the mouthfeel, and a finishing dryness. Highs & lows, with some potential.

2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
This beer looks great poured into a mug. Black with a thick tan head and cascading bubbles. There’s something odd to the smell I really don’t like, but other than whatever that aromatic wafting up is it is pretty decent - sweet and roasted, a bit of chocolate. The weird thing is weirding me out, almost urine-like. Whatever that thing I don’t like is continues on into the flavor, but less so thankfully. Sweet, chocolate and roast notes make up the rest of the flavor. Very nice mouthfeel, proper carbonation, decently heavy, and a pleasant chocolate flavor that lingers.
