It’s a saison of sorts; hellaciously herbaceous and hopefully contagious. This was not a ready made ale. But it is a ready made collaboration. Meaning Stone and Victory are 2 breweries that are exactly like Dogfish in that they do/brew exactly what they love and they do/brew it exactly like no other brewery out there. (Love - lots of it in this bottle)

Ale brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.

12 oz. bottled 02/18/2016, indicates 6.8% abv. Lightly foggy, orange-golden body has nice legs and a creamy disc of foam. Aroma is flowery honey, biscuit, lightly spicy herb mix and a bit of lemon. Flavors of sage, sourish honey, flowery lemon and some light funk. Some evergreen resin, bubblegum and bitter toothpick in the long finish. Near-medium body has medium-plus, but smooth carbonation and a dry slant.

Saison Du Buff, Stone, 2016. Herby. Strong parsley on the middle of the mouth. Belgian-y yeast start and finish. Bitter finish. Very bitter. Bit peppery at the end. And bitter. Astringent herb. Well crafted, but, not for me. 3.3 7, 3, 5, 3, 15

Bottle from K&L Wines in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is lemony and herbal. A little much on all the herbs but would pair well with roasted chicken, ah doi.

Bottle. Slightly opaque yellow pour with a large fizzy off white head. Aroma of rosemary, herbs, soap, and lemongrass. . A lot going on here, almost too much in terms of herbs and sugar. Medium to thin mouthfeel with a sweet then slightly sour finish

Bottle. Gold color with white head and lacing. Strong rosemary on the nose with grass and lemon notes; kitty litter notes as well. Herbal and lemon citrus with raisin and cereal notes. Not a fan of rosemary, but it's most present in the nose. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2015 BJCP Category: 25B Saison

AROMA: Strong spicy/herbal aroma. Additives probably a bit too strong per guidelines. Citrusy hops. No malt character. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Amber/pale orange hue. Cloudy but translucent; Co2 visible. Large, white, frothy head; very good lacing. 3/3

FLAVOR: Dry spicy bitterness immediately. Akin to rye. Soft malt character at palette’s base. Orange-tasting hops come through at apex. Finish is a melange of spices: parsley, sage, rosemary and lemon thyme. Spices are probably a bit too strong per guidelines, but still quite enjoyable. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium+ body; crisp and consistently effervescent. Finish is mostly dry with some spicy/citrusy aftertaste. No alcohol presence. Not refreshing but easy to drink. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A delectable, unique and fun beer. May be a bit too unconventional for the style (would score even higher in 30A). 8/10

Pours a pale golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is a nice blend of lemon and herbs. Flavor is pretty similar. The rosemary and thyme stand out. This is quite bitter, much more bitter than I remember Dogfish Head’s version being. It could be that it’s been a long time since I had Dogfish Head’s version, but it could also be that this is Stone tends more towards the bitter side. This is a very enjoyable beer, even if the bitterness does feel out of place here.

Draft pour at Upstairs. Pour was cloudy golden amber with slight head. Aroma of fruit. Taste of fruit (various non-citrus) and hops (citrus) with little bitterness. A very good drink!
