4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 JohnC (3000) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - DEC 8, 2002UPDATED: DEC 24, 2006 an update, 24 Dec 2006, I just had some of this on draft at Stone’s Winter Storm at their Stone World Bistro. It’s in great shape. Golden colored, fruity with a great finish. The balance is fantastic. Can’t believe it’s nearly 5 years old.
honey colored, w/ a great nose & flavor. Stone’s description is accurate. It is ’trippel-ish’. Very nice

Yeasty Belgian with spices all blended into a dark beer somewhere between a porter and a stout...great finish...really good, I had with a friend with a porkloin dinner and it was sublime!!!

Finally got to try it! once from a bottle that was infected and on draft at the 2013 Stone winter Storm. Nice citrusy notes with a faint Belgian yeast kick. Held up better than I thought it would.

So we got it. Thanks to Sean9689 for doing the legwork and securing the bottle. Opened up on 02.02.13. The anniversary of the first Vertical Epic. 22 oz. bottle served in a CCB snifter.
A: Pours a semi clear orange color with solid white head forming on the pour. Surprised by the amount of carbonation in this guy.
S: Pretty fruit still, some light oxidation with a little bit of prunes. Seems like it oxidized in a non-poor way. We’ll see what the taste entails.
T: Definitely oxidized in a sherry-like way. Deep dark dark fruits, some figs and prunes with a stale oat flavor to it. The best way to describe it is it just tasted "old". Mild paper from the oxidation as well, but surprised at how this has held up .
M: Medium to light bodied with a pretty solid and ample carbonation level. Pretty easy drinking.
O: As mentioned before this beer just tasted old, but the oxidation took a sherry like approach to it which lessened the blow of the usual cardboard flavors that a beer of this age would usually pick up. For being a 7.5% witbier, it surprised everyone at the tasting.

A combination of my favorite (black IPA) and least favorite (Belgian) styles. As it turns out it lands right in the middle for me. Very flavorful, and I get why people would love it, but not quite to my liking

(bottle - 22 oz - Night of the Titans 2013) The first of the reason we had our gathering. To drink the Stone Vertical Epic series. This was the one we were most concerned about as to whether or not it would age properly. Thank God that it did. Mildly cloudy amber pour, but after 11 years of sitting that didn’t shock me really. Still a fair amount of carbonation though. Sweet and spicy malt aroma with a nice honey and citrus undertone. Very nice sweetness throughout with a great sweet and spicy finish and aftertaste. Amazing how well it held up and how good it tasted.

I was fortunate to try this last night at an epic tasting held by my good friend Mike, thanks for the opportunity MrBarleywine!
The first in the series pours a slightly hazy deep golden color with an almost non existent off white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is sweet with caramel and light tropical fruit with a lightly spicy bready yeasty bite to provide a bit of balance. The flavor is sweet like the aroma promised. Sugary and caramel malts with a faded but present spicy peppery yeast bite. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet spicy mouthfeel. This held up better than I expected, but its also a stretch to call this a wit I guess. It has lots of sherry oxidized notes, but it drank pretty good. Probably past its prime, but holding up just the same.

On tap at Stone on 12.12.12
Appearance: Pours a clear yellow gold. Within the body you will see sparse tiny bubbles rising. A ring of thin white suds gather around the top of the glass.
Aroma: Strawberry lemonade, ribbon candy.
Taste: Dry pale malt, spicy yeast. Lemon candy. Spicy finish with light tartness.
Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation, on the thin side of medium bodied, juicy.
Overall: Pretty decent, and very lively for a decade old beer. My favorite part was the slight tartness that invited me back for more. Stone kept this keg in pristine shape, so results may vary.

22oz bottle. Golden in color with an averaged sized white head. Some oxidation, spicy, yeast, and some caramel. Shows some age, but overall not as bad as I would have expected. Glad I had the chance to finally have this (and doing a full 020202 - 121212 vertical to boot!).
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Damico (1920) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 28, 2012
Wooooowwwwww - points for rare here! Thank you very much for opening this my friend! Pours clear golden amber with a bubbly body and creamy white head. Aroma and flavor bring some oxidation, but just a tad, especially considering over ten years of aging! Aroma brings the aged yeast and some sweet notes. The flavor has notes of the yeast dominating as well, hops are completely gone, bring some bitter and caramel malts blended. Had an all grain homebrew as well which followed the exact same recipe as the website, turned out really nice too.

Pours a translucent golden with a medium bubbly white head. Aroma of some oxidized cardboard notes, light spicy notes, citrus and very Tripel like. Flavor of lemon zest, spicy Belgian yeast character, light oxidation and candy notes. Lively carbonation and nice and dry.
