Capa (665), Yokosuka, Japan May 25, 2008 Part of a vertical in half Tokyo; thanks marc! Orange caramel in color with a creamy head. Aroma is full of caramel malts, biscuit, molasses, and sort of spicy. Mouth is a tad thin. Bready malts, caramel, pepper, molasses, and belgian yeast. Warming alcohol in the end. Highly enjoyable. Goodgrief (995), Middletown, Delaware, USA Mar 29, 2008 Oct. 2007 - Ruby brown pour with nice looking head and lacing. Wonderful aroma of caramel malts and earthy hops. First sip, taken aback by a sour fruitiness. Caramel malt base and significantly hopped and not a bad tasting beer, but the sourness was detracting. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Ok. Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing. TimE (1013), Tokyo, Japan Mar 24, 2008 Stone Half Vertical Tasting at Popeye’s 02.02.08 (ironically 6th year anniversary). Thanks again Marc.
Showed little similarity to the 02 expect for the bready character and exotic spices. Liquorice, chocolate, pepper (apparently alligator pepper) all jump from the nose. The mouth has unfermented barley chocolate notes, kinda like a Czech dunkel aging in a wooden cask. The burnt grain character was really interesting too. A bit thin I thought. Warming finish. WeeHeavySD (1564), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Feb 21, 2008 Tap @ Stone winter Storm 1/28/08, shared with bikesandbeer and my girlfriend Cyn. Pours orange and brown with a tan head. Nose is malty and sweet. Taste is sweet ruddy and tasty. Pretty nice. doubleo (683), San Diego, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 On-tap at Stone 1/28/08. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a thin but crisp white head that fades quickly. Smell is malty sweet, that’s it. Taste is awesome and I’m not just saying that to jump on the VE bandwagon, this really is the best beer I had that day. Tastes of dark red fruits and malts, sweet. Yeasty, bready aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with nice carbonation. This brew is drinking good.
