Draft at Hopleaf. Pours a deep brown with a tan head. The nose is really appley and herbal. Lots of esters and dark fruit. Earthy. On tasting, some light and faint cardboard. A bit flabby, but it is 10 years old. Smooth with the phenols fading. Clove on the finish. appley, dry and clean and again, earthy. Pretty impressive.

Tap at Falling Rock, Denver. Mahogony brown with heavy lacing. Sweet malt with belgiany esters and some black pepper and lightly floral hops. Taste follows with some rock candy sweetness. Orange peel? Tasty not great but amazing it has aged this well.

On tap 4 oz. pour at Churchkey in Logan Circle neighbohood, Washington, DC on 12/12/12.
Murky, rusty orange-brown with khaki head and very good lacing.
Aroma of sweet toffee, sweet dark fruit, caramel and brown sugar.
Taste of earthy malts, figs, bitter floral elements, fruit, oak and aged scotch.
Full/medium body and low/medium carbonation.

Traded $90 worth of beers for this one 2 years ago! Pouring it for my vertical epic tasting, only bottle! Pours dark ruby amber with a creamy sandy head. The aroma brings sweet notes and Belgian sugar almost like almonds/marzipan. The flavor brings some aged malt notes and ends with a pleasant sweetness.

Bottle, shared at Brendanís 12/12/12 party! Pours a clear very dark amber with a small bubbly white head that fades. Aroma is quite sticky sweet, of raisins, marzipan, wood, yeast, malt, dark fruits. Taste is sticky sweet yeast, malt, raisins, sugar, and at the very very end a bit of sparkly pepper on the tongue. Lingering sweet and a hint of pepper. Could use more pepper. Hasnít aged that great, but still decent.

Draft at Churchkey 12.12.12. Creamy mahogany pour with a decent frothy head and nice lacing. Nose and flavor maintained a surprising amount of black pepper and cinnamon, caramel, molasses, and a bone dry toasty finish. Pretty all right.

Draft at Churchkey on 12/12/12. Poured a slightly hazy toffee color, thick white head that dissipated to a small creamy, slightly wispy off-white head. Slight oxidation, but mostly light toffee notes, some sweet mellow malts. Flavor was some toffee and creamy caramel. Held up a lot better than I ever would have expected.

Pours a solid dark brown with a bubbly off white head that shows great retention. Smells of dark sugar, caramel and some hints of chocolate and dark dried fruits. The flavor is what I expected it would be based on the nose. Lots of caramel and dark sugars with a muted but present raisin and dried sweet cherry flavor. Spicy wheat and yeast flavors round out the palette. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a lightly sweet mouthfeel. I am glad I got the opportunity to try this one, but I really wish I had tried it sooner. Thereís really nothing wrong with this beer, but it feels a bit past its prime.

Cloudy brown beer, little white head. Nose of aged malt. Crisp aged malt. A little chocolate and cream. Mild minerals and the remnants of what once might have been hops. Clearly past itís best and hugely disappointing.

Pours a murky copper color with minimal foam. Smells very oxidized and slightly metallic. A bit of sweet caramel and brown sugar malt notes, maybe a hint of overripe fruit, too. Not all that appealing, though. The flavor has a definite note of pennies to it. Still sweet and malty, but definitely some cardboard oxidation and a generic, muddled fruit flavor. Medium bodied with low carbonation.
