COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. With Vertical Epic 03/03/03, we used some pretty interesting ingredients...coriander (a "Belgian-style" beer favorite!), alligator pepper (wow, bite into these little gems and you get a bigtime spicy rush of flavor), and a bit of both unmalted wheat and dark roasted wheat. And a blend of Belgian yeast and American ale yeast. And a nice selection of high alpha hops (a decidedly non-Belgian style twist). All told it makes for a dubble-ish taken-to-San-Diego-pushed-to-the-edge-and-slapped-around-a-bit beer. So, treat it gently. It's been abused enough already. Store it upright, cool and in the dark. It would enjoy a nice long rest. It will have plenty of patience. Now let's see about you . . . . In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/030303

Ungstrup (28448) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - AUG 28, 2005
A hazy amber beer with a thin off white head. The aroma is sweet malty with a quite strong alcohol presence, while the flavor is sweet and again with the strong alcohol presence, but also with notes of wood and fruit.

Papsoe (25094) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 24, 2005
UPDATED: APR 14, 2007 (Bottle 65 cl) Clear, dark amber. Nose full of caramel and hops. Taste of sweet caramel and aroma hops. Spicy and somewhat herbal - I believe I can sense the pepper in there somewhere. Dry finish. Decent if not overly exciting - would love to have one for keeping another 7 years though... 120805 and 060407

Cloudy brown beer, little white head. Nose of aged malt. Crisp aged malt. A little chocolate and cream. Mild minerals and the remnants of what once might have been hops. Clearly past it’s best and hugely disappointing.

Bottle at LCRBM3. Wow, that’s really disappointing. Just too much butter. This is a pretty nasty beer.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 9/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 17/20
argo0 (11181) - Washington DC, USA - APR 15, 2003
(4/15/03): Hazy copper body with small beige head. Aroma is sweet, spicy (coriander) and malty. Taste is malty, sweet, coriander spicy, pine hoppy, and slightly smokey. Fairly light body. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Well-balanced yummiful beer! Bought a whole case, so I'm gonna have fun drinking one of these each year.
