COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

Slightly hazy amber pour, with white head. Caramel, dusty bread, somewhat stale, yeast, light spice still hanging in there. Sure itís over the hill, but itís not terrible. Excited that I got to try it.

This poured a darker yellow to amber color with a small white head. Aroma was yeasty, and some spices, didnt really pick up the lime here, and some metalic notes too. Flavor was a bit of oxidation and minerals. some saison yeast and must and spice. Past its prime but not terrible.

Sample at a tasting at Suttreeís. Cloudy gold with whitish head. The aroma is bland and sweetish with a hint of honey and grain. The flavor is a bland, flat honey (to rip off Shag, "honey from retarded bees") and slight seltzer. Some chalky malt notes.

Stone 04 vertIcal epic. 22oz bottle thx to matt... Pours a lazy orangey copper brown hue and a soft pillowy white head... Aroma yeast and papery carbonation with a dark semi-ripened fruit aspect... Ripened sweet dried fruit and yeasty notes throughout. Oxidized but still pretty drinkable. Thinner bodied due to length of aging. Good to try. 7/4/7/3/12

Sampled from the bottle at a fun tasting thanks to kan and to matt for bringing the bottle. A gold orange color in the glass with a touch of white head.Aromas of doughy belgian yeast and bread. medium in body in your mouth. Flavors are not too enticing at all with some lemon, and citrus fruit. Spices and lime kick in and the finish is on the drier side. Not too impressed.

22 oz bottle shared by Matt. Pours a murky dark amber orange pour, vicious glow with a good healthy haze, a decent bright white frothy head that laces ok. Aromas are citrusy, oxidzed malts, lemons and oranges, touches of bread dough, spice, vibrant oranges really seem to dominate. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied offering a decent bitterness, dry florals and citrus, oranges, spice, bread dough, pale malts, and a touch of spice. Really lost much of itís base beer with age. Finish is lingering malts, bread, some toast, vibrant citrusy orange, some lemons, oxidized malts, cardboard, touch of suntan lotion. Ok, but itís age shows. Give it the benefit of the doubt here.
