COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

Very pale with a golden tint, soft white foam. A confusing array of mild but distinct aromas, it’s a border war between Belgium and Germany with Bannanas fighting oranges a peaches for supremacy. Medium bodied, it sarts soft and marshmallow-y then a hint of orange creeps in, followed by a subtle cherry pie flavor then some lime. Saisontripelweizen of the highest order!

Hugely fruity and somewhat exotic aroma, with suggestions of banana, papaya, pear, mango, tart apple, lemon zest, hints of spices and of the kaffir lime leaf, faint pepper and more; very complex yet festive. Medium golden color, amber cast, lightly sedimented and hazy with a lush, off-white head. Flavor is sweetly malty up front, progressing to a lightly bitter and mellow spiciness before the citric, estery and faintly yeasty finish. Quite refreshing for a beer with 8.5% alc. Mouthfeel is creamy and effervescent, body is medium-full. Unique and tasty. Thanks a bunch to Emily and Jeff!

22oz bomber: poured into tulip glass, and can i say whoA BANANAANANAS? a hint of lime too in the aroma/finish. Cloudy light golden pour. and a nice frothy, thick white head. I wish i had started aging Stone’s vertical epic’s since 02.02.02. Tastes of banana maltyness, and a citrus fruity goodness, Slight hops on the finish too. i like it. i want to rate more belgians...

Cloudy golden to tan color with a fluffy white head. Aromas of alcohol, butter, mild spritzy notes and yeast. Very full mouthfeel with booming malt, candy, yeast and some very minor lemon background notes. Alcohol is a bit too much out front in the aroma, but this is a very fine and enjoyable beer. Yum.

22 oz bomber-pours a nice light orange hue with a big whispy white head. Aggressive carbonation and nice lacing! lots of banana, apricot, corriander, nutmeg and other spices on the aroma. foavors are strong and describe the aromas very nicely. banana and corriander are the most noted. I think this is a great beer even though it maybe "unbalanced" for some. 1-2 years of aging would do wonders to this one. The palate is a little bite-y, but I dont mind it. long hoppy/spicy finish with cool citrus notes too. This is close to being one of the best belgians i have ever had! Stone can do no wrong.

Orange color with a huge soft & creamy white head, medium in body, very smooth & drinkable, banana & yeast in the nose, lots of fruit flavors, yeasty finish, hint of lime, very enjoyable

Bright orange-gold with a creamy white head. Creamy carbonation, medium-bodied. Nice and sweet malts, but they kind of take the back seat, behind the hops, spices, and yeast. Flowery, herbal hops with a mild bitterness. Interesting spices; can’t say I’ve tasted them in beer before (had a curious mint-like sensation). Notes of yeasty banana and spicy lime. Dryish finish. At first I found it kind of odd, but the flavors grew on me.

This bottle conditioned beer poured a clear golden yellow with a huge white head. Aroma of banana, yeast. A nice beer and I really want to age a few to see how it develops.

"Juicy Fruit" was my first thought upon tasting it. In its infancy, it exhibits a lot of its lime leaf and ester character. The aroma is juicy candy too. THis sounds as if it were too sweet to drink, but it is not. It is just unbelievably fruity. Perhaps this would be sophisticated when it ages and integrates. For now, it?s something of a luscious bimbo.

Light, clear and inviting. I especially enjoy the subtle bitter finish. The flavor is sweet, with banana tones such that is might just be the most belgian tasting american "belgian" i’ve had.
