COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

Bottle to Chimay glass. Cloudy dark gold pour. Looks great and a surprising amount of carbonation for the age. Bready aroma. Taste is amazing especially for the age. Very fragrant and flowery lime flavor dominates. So good. After a few sips the farmhouse and bittering hop qualities start to make their presence known. Very impressive how well this held up.. Iíd buy a pint of it on tap tomorrow.

Draft @ Lord Hobo, on 12/15/12. We got to enjoy the left over Stone from the 12/12/12 event. Aroma of banana, clove, caramel and spice. Taste of yeast and the lime really makes it somewhat sour for me. Oxidation is all over this brew and it shows mineral water notes. The lime with age didnít really work for me. Medium body and flat carbonation. For 8 years old not terrible.

Tap at CK for 12.12.12. VE night. Thanks to Travlr for the pour. Full haze lighter golden to straw pour. Good white foam dwindling. Spotty lacing. Nose is full on perfume, candied orange peel, lemon verbana, sage, rosemary, white pepper. Very perfumey. I like these types of beers though :-) Taste is spicy, herbal, big sage, garden freshness, rose hips. Iím down with this. Oily to near sticky palate doesnít ruin it thankfully.

(Draught) clear medium gold, no head. Nose of lime, spice, alcohol, aged hops. Taste is very herbal, spicy, hops held up surprisingly well, a bit of alcohol heat, interesting.

Pours clear orange red to medium brown. Nose is citrus and mild oxidation notes. First sip is key lime flavors with malty aldehydes also present. Finish is mild apple cider like qualities. Not bad.

Draft at Hopleaf. Pours a deep gold with a sticky white head. The nose is light sweet lime, herbal overall. Light fruity esters and faint phenol. Clean. On tasting, moderate bitterness and a strong herbal hop flavor persists through the finish. Really drinkable. Light oxidation and sweetness.

On tap 4 oz. pour at Churchkey in Logan Circle neighbohood, Washington, DC on 12/12/12. Hazy, translucent tiger-stripe orange with just the fringe of an off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of fruit, banana, caramel and herbs. Taste of yeast, sweet caramel and sugar malts, apricot, banana, cloves and other spices. Mellow and well rounded. Medium body and low carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clearer amber with a white head. The aroma brings some refreshing, dare I say spritzy, lime sweetness still after 8 years! The flavor brings a still somewhat crisp, lightly sweet, golden ale with residual pleasant flavors of the lime and notes of the Belgian yeast. Wow - still holding up overall pretty well after 8 years.

Bottle, shared at Brendanís 12/12/12 party! Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a small white head that fades. Light aroma, of yeast, a hint of bandaid, malt, sugar. Taste is bright and sweet, of malt, yeast, sugar, wheat, a hint of lime, banana, caramel. Lingering lime and wheat. Not as nice as the others, but not bad.
