COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

Poured a golden color, somewhat of a thin head that didnít last long. Aroma of grapes, apples, coriander, yeaste, and some alcohol, considering this thing was two years old. The flavor followed the aroma mostly. Mellow malts, balanced with a light yeasty bitterness, an underlying light sweetness, bready flavors, and alcohol that was noticeable but not "new" sharp. The mouthfeel was moderate with a leathery type feel.

Had this sometime at the end of 2012, as part of a 03.03.03 - 12.12.12 tasting. I had meant to enter these a while ago while they were fresh and add a few extra details, but that didnít happen. Review from notes. Anyway, here we go. 3.5 A: Moderately hazed medium orange color. Didnít make much of a head. 3.5 S: Honey, lime, pepper, clove, and dog biscuit. Musty and simultaneously spicy. Smells almost like a much less old saison. 3.5 T: Tastes like the nose. A lot of lime and dog biscuit. Musty, a bit tangy, and spicy. Pepper, honey, and clove. 3.5 M: Medium body. Lightly spritzy with good moderate carbonation. 3.0 D: I wouldnít want to drink it again, but for an old ass beer itís not bad. ★ 717 characters DavoleBomb, Jan 17, 2015

From notes. Tasted on 12/12/12 from a capped 22oz bottle with Curtis, and the Nashville crew. Pours hazy bright orange with a minimal white head that quickly disappears. The nose is showing pretty heavy nutty oxidation, touch of banana, very malty, almost smells like a coconut curry. The flavor is very interesting, lime, coconut curry, tons of caramel malt, and banana yeast, but showing quite a bit of the same nutty oxidation from the nose. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long malty banana and curry finish.

Opened a bottle in 1/1/2015. Decent carbonation. Little aroma. A lot of oxidation but still drinkable. Sugary sweet. Lime is hardly apparent.

On tap at the Escondido brewpub - Blonde amber pour with a filmy white head. Odd minty note with sweet tropical fruity notes. Pear and overripe banana. Pineapple juice. Taste is pineapple, honey, sweet malt, and a sticky sweet finish. Slick with a thin body.
