4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Medium sized light brown cap, large bubbled, good retention with minimal lacing thats spotty. Color is dark brown with a red glow. Good clarity, an attractive brew. Nose of dark fruits, plummy, raisiny with hints of clay, peppery spiceyness and a bit of vanilla. Body is med/full, smooth textured. Dry malt flavors, lightly earthy, dusty. Ripe fruits coming through, cocoa and a light roastiness, bananna and alcohol flavors showing as it warms up. Dry, fruity finish. A keeper that will be interesting to age. Once again, Thanks to SDbruboy for a couple bombers of this fine elixer!! Thanks Cliff!

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle pour at Bambinos Seattle, just past its prime along with not being stored properly, however it still showed a little of promise I enjoyed it nun the less, happy to be able to try this one. Dark amber pour still some foam head, little bitter, crisp almost plum flavor, solid beer. Default would be higher if not for the condition.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From notes. Tasted on 12/12/12 from a capped 22oz bottle with Curtis, and the Nashville crew. Pours cola brown with a very thin beige head that leaves a very thin collar of lace. The nose is malty cocoa, dark chocolate, creamy milk chocolate, and a touch of anise. The flavor is the same, all different levels of chocolate, with some anise and added roasted bitterness. The body is full with average carbonation and a long malty cocoa and bitter dark chocolate finish.

On tap at the Escondido brewpub - Pours mahogany with a filmy tan head. Nose is big Belgian yeast, lots of dark bread maltiness, and a dark fruitiness. Taste is the same, warm alcohol with lots of yeast, cherry, raisin, dark malt. Smooth and well-carbonated.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at stone company store. Ruby/brown pour, clear with ring of khaki head. Some lacing. Aroma: figs, molasses, grains steeping on brew day; bread, banana laffy taffy, licorice. Taste: cardboard and chocolate/toffee. Actually the oxidation in this isnít bad -- more sherry than cardboard, with a backdrop of raisins. Lightly sweet up front, but otherwise pretty dry. Full- body, creamy, good carbonation. Overall: this ainít bad. It ainít bad at all.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
"Sweet leaning, but not overly slow. Some signs of oxidation after 7 years, but not spoiled. Hints of clove and other Belgian-y spices going on, and some non-deScript dark fruit and a hint of alcohol. Definitely a gimmick to sit on these for 12 years, especially since you can make a couple car payments by selling them. Iíve never had a bottle of my own past one year, and I donít think most of the VE releases will be better than fresh after 6-12 months anyway..."

3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap. Pours a cloudy dark amber with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is faint chocolate malt and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel with rich cocoa and brown sugar with nice lingering dry finish.

22oz bottle -
The Epic Ales series have been up and down, and Iíve had several chances to try most of them at different times in their aging lives. This one really carried itself nicely and seemed much better now than when fresh. Aroma is light chocolate, musty, spicy and yeasty. Light canned fruit also creeps in after it breathes a bit. Toffee, spicy/gingery, light mint, with a nice showing of sweetness. Nice to see it holding up, while others havenít.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from Odeed. Nose is caramel, anise, black raisins, and sweetness. Clear brown with a medium beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet, darly fruity, and small hints of bitter and licorice. Very well preserved for a nine year old beer.
