Aroma: Intense, concentrated bouquet of candied ginger and herbs, orange and orange peel.
Palate: Full body
Flavor: Honeyed ginger, herb--cardamon, floral citrus, more honey. Long, long finish.
Comment: Great integration and full flavor and mouth feel, Though I have never tried a young version of this, I imagine that the fruit and sweetness has dried out considerable and it a good way.

August 5, 2015 - bottle via trade. Brownish orange pour with nice amount of head that lasted a bit. Aroma was fruity, spicy, yeast and malt. Taste was fruity and sweet initially and then moves to the yeast and spice. Finish was a touch dry and maybe a splash of alcohol as well.

Bottle: Thanks Jeff. Over 5 years old. Murky, swampy brown sludge, strange jaundice yellow tint. Opaque. Looks like ass. Big, bubble eggshell cap. Aroma is... fucken weird. Tomato juice, bubblegum, spicy Belgian yeast, vinegar, hefty ginger, sour cardamom, cooked vegetables. Like a fucked up, spiced V-8 Splash. Smells gross, tastes nearly as bad. Heavy vegetal flavors, tomato, celery, ginger, strange sourness, heavy handed cardamom, mild toasted bread, clove, orange peel in the finish. Very tough to finish. Pretty damn wretched.

Shows freshness at this old age, but borders on cloyingly sweet and shows heavy alcohol. There’s some tart grapefruit and lemon citrus that add a sour hint and subtle spice is still present, but this isn’t the best Vertical Epic offering.

Draft pour at Stone library station. Amazing beer. Golden pour, sweet aroma, 7 years of age and it still taste fresh.

Bottle @ RG 21. Caramel with floaters. Smells like butt out of the bottle, smells sweet in the glass. A little harsh and sour.

Bottle pour @ the 21st Richmond Gathering. Light gold pour. Sort of a menthol and pine cone character to this. Ginger spice or something like that. taste of apple sauce and light ginger. Some paper, drain water. A muddled representation of what probably used to be a great beer. Medium body, soft carbonation.

"nice and dry, which ends up being quite the pleasant mouthfeel. sampled 1/09 and it aged quite well...and was exceptional aged in red wine barrels for eight months!"

Bottle thanks to Rick. Pours a cloudy orange with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong ginger, oak, booze. Medium mouthfeel with sweet fruit, citrus, ginger, oak, light boozy finish. Very good.

Aroma’s of acidic vinegar, vanilla, barnyard funk, yeast funk, hay, oak and sweet citrus. Deep copper appearance with a two finger foam and plenty of sediment. Slightly acidic flavors of Belgian yeast, wheat, white vinegar, vanilla and funky lemon zest. Barnyard funk and some hay. Overall, very interesting brew. I feel as though some funky flavors have come through to the palate after aging for years. A rating.
