COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In this year’s edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small frothy white head, mostly diminishing, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, hay, straw), average hops (herbs, grass), heavy yeast (barnyard, earth), with notes of alcohol, peach and coriander. Medium bodied, alcoholic texture, lively carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Botella. Hazy deep amber. Lots of ginger in the aroma, very sweet, hard to detect anything but sweet ginger, some fruit. Thick mouthfeel. Sweet ginger flavour indeed with fruity hops and spice. Too much ginger for my likings.

Shared at Cigar City by?? Not sure. It was really good until I tasted the red wine barrel version!! Very yeasty and spicy with some plantain and a bit too much honey/sugar flavors. Not bad, but not amazing.

Do I have the patience to wait five years for the second bottle? Probably not. Both bottles from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours a light amber with small head and minimal lacing. Yeasty aroma, but sadly it takes on the character of that fruit cocktail crap from elementary school. Taste is very strong pineapple with some background spice. I’m not loving this. Guess that will make it easier to wait 5 years!

Bottle... O-Town Throwdown Part Deux... Clear, light amber ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Nice, but odd, herbal aroma offers up notes of lavender, clove and pale grains. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic and mildly bitter with orange peel, grass, peach and clove. A touch hot. Full-bodied and watery with tingly carbonation. Tangy, minerally, bone-dry finish. Thanks to DragonStout for sharing this bottle!

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of Steve_0. Thanks! A touch hazy, golden orange appearance with a white head. A little spicy, citrusy, big lemony, tangy tangerine aroma. Spicy bready, tangy tangerine, bubble gum, somewhat spicy yeasty flavor. Held up pretty well.

22oz bottle. Filling in the Vertical Epics I have not rated (had this during a full 020202 - 121212 vertical). Orangish in color with a small sized head. Citrus, rinds, fruity, and spices.

500 mL shared at CCB Tasting Night. Pours a clear, bright orange with a fairly large eggshell head. Aroma of toffee, overripe bananas, butterscotch, white grape juice. From the description this sounded awesome but was actually not very good. Taste was incredible cloying alcohol, way too much candi sugar, and the balancing spices were long gone after aging this one. I know Greg is going to cry when I say this but it ended with a drain pour. I’m sorry. Abbey Tripels and Saisons just don’t go together.
