In this yearís edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

Pours a deep amber with a one finger white head. Very spicy and and sweet one the nose. Taste of tons of spice, including, ginger, orange, lemon and maybe coriander? Finish is spicy and sweet. Not crazy about this one.

It has an amber color with a nice head. Goes away quickly. You can smell the alcohol along with ginger. Almost smells like a ginger ale soda. Oh...my...god... this has so much flavor! My mouth canít even begin to describe. Ginger is the most present, then the alcohol comes in to play. Fruity/Grapefruit aftertaste. Iím def. going to age one. Hopefully I can last 5 years...

Clear light amber color with lasting white head some lacing. A bit of small bits of yeast floating. Aromas of coriander, hint of banana, clove, with a little toasted malt in the background. Thicker body than I expected, high carbonation. At first very sweet but finishes dry and a little sour bitterness. Enjoyable now but wonder what it will taste like in 5 years.

Pours clear golden honey colored. Mildly sweet. Tastes of honey, orange, and spice. Little hop presence. A little disappointed. Maybe it needs 5 years.

This is a very good beer but itís definitely over hyped. Like many of Stoneís beers.

I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this would be a random run of the mill "ale wtih spices".... I loved the aroma - sweet citrusy notes. And the flavor was very pleasing... nice malty flavor balanced with the orange/grapefruit/lemon note spices brewed in. This was great. Not terribly complex and not sure how much better if I let this one age for 4+ more years. Good beer.

Golden amber color with a light white disappering head. Fresh grassy aroma with green apples, spices, and sweet fruit. Fresh flavor of green apples, bananas, caramel, ginger and honey. Mouthwatering feeling with a thick, sticky finish.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2007 Nice looking brew. Clear medium amber, head fades rather quick. Smell is great, sweet fruits. Taste is good, a little light, but good from beginning to end. Very smooth, good aftertaste.

This is one of the nicer takes on the malty Belgian ales that Iíve tried, particularly by an American brewer, most of whom produce very disappointing results when making Belgian strong ales and trippels. this pours a cinnamon nut-brown with vibrant carbonation. Complex aromas of cinnamon, grapefruit, orange peel, ginger, all-spice. More spicy than fruity. Medium bodied yeasty mouthfeel. Iíd say this leans toward being a heavily spiced witbier rather than a dubbel or trippel. Itís very nice. I bought several extras, which I will store and drink in a few years.

the color is a golder amber with a small and brief head. the smell is of heavy esters, strong aromas of dark fruits, caramel and such, not at all disappointing. The flavor is a bit more dry and bitter than I expected with a sweet and bitter middle and a clean finish. overall a well crafted beer.
