COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In this year’s edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

Pours deep reddish amber with light white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, apple, pear, citrus, and golden raisins. Sweet with nice body. The fruit and spice flavors are nice.

Aroma is complexly sweet with ginger and the cardamom brings out the sweet orange, almost like orange blossoms. There are suspended particles in the ever-so perfectly, golden, sparkling appearance; which may be due to the ginger... if you have ever had the "Hitachi Ginger-beer" you may understand the suspended ginger particles. Adds a great ginger flavor the lower you get in the bottle!! The Saison character hits you up front, followed by the Belgian "barely" Triple flavor. Very smooth palate. Worth a try for the price I’ve seen them selling at the local market recently, $15.99.

This vertical will leave you horizontal if you drink too much! I like the ingenuity that went into this one---lots of flavors that melded interestingly and didn’t become a mess of a beer. This beer holds interest from start to warming finish. It is spicy and just a little "hot". The sweetness isn’t overwhelming, as it is balanced with floral notes and something a little more substantive like raisings or something.

22 oz Bottle. Tastes like the usual Belgian style ale but has the classic stone kick to it. Easy to drink at 8.4%, but too much Belgian style is not my favorite. Nice to try but I had a laugh when I saw what outrageous prices people were paying for this on ebay.

Pours a cloudy light amber with a white head. Fruity, spicy aroma. Taste like oregano, ginger and been there, done that, wont drink it again. Big fan of stone but this ones not for me.

From a bottle. A very good Belgian beer. Nice spice and citrus flavors. Would have liked a bit less malt and a bit more hop. I am going to hold a couple of bottles until 2008 and revisit. I like this beer but just a bit too sweet.

22oz bottle. Goblet. Pours a brilliant orange amber, with light wisps of carbonation clinging to the glass. The aroma comes across intially sweet with candy sugar, pepper, wheat, clove, muscat grape, lemon, citrus zest-- a lot in there to ponder, as to be expected with these Epics. The initial sip bemoans a thin Tripel, wihich takes a unique, spicy, earthy twist, before finishing with alcohol warmth, sweetness, spice, and lingering, bitter tartness that hits the back of the throat. Good yeast... Fun beer- Should be even MORE fun in a year or two.. or 5(!)
