stoutlover72 (1314), NorCal, California, USA Apr 21, 2008 Not really sure how any of these earlier beers will hold up until 2012, but whoever has the patience to find out will have something to remember for a long time. This beer was good, but nothing great. It poured out a deep orange/gold color, clear with a small head. Tons of spices and fruity esters in this one. Clove really seemed to stand out the most prominent for me, but there were other notes of ginger, nutmeg, corriander and toffee too. Flavors are sharp with spices, there’s no denying that. Also picked up some strange vegetable-like flavors (celery?) and peppers, but perhaps they used some fennel seed the making? Interesting combonation of flavors. But as I said, not sure how tasty this will be in another 5 years or so.
derekbang (83), Indiana, USA Jul 20, 2008 As noted, pours golden color with not much head. Didn’t really stand out as anything special - maybe I just have such high expectations for Stone but this one didn’t do much for me. doubleo (683), San Diego, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 On-tap at Stone. Pours golden yellow with a moderate sized white head, specks of lace. Smells yeasty and bready, slightly fruity, slightly spicey. Tastes bready and cereal malt sweet with a good bit of spice. Tastes bready and cereal sweet with a good bit of spice, some citrus and a little bit of hops to finish it off. Medium body, fizzy carbonation. BenDover (86), Ohio, USA Jul 18, 2008 Pours a golden/yellow, thin white head. Aroma of citrus, coriander, ginger, and other spices. Flavor is citrus, fruity, halfway between a Saison and a Tripel (pretty much as advertised). This is fantastic stuff. I love it. Tweety (159), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Jul 9, 2008 ACBF 2008. I was really excited for this one which made it quite a bit of a let-down. It was nothing more than a generically belgian-tasting ale. I’d write more, but nothing about it really stuck out in my mind, a disappointment, really...although not bad I guess. boto (1199), Granby, Connecticut, USA Jul 8, 2008 22oz bomber: This one pours a slightly hazy, darker golden color. There was a bit of white foam on the top that settles down to a thin layer . The nose is nice. Yeastiness, breadiness, spices, earthiness, there is a lot going on here. Boy, this is smooth. A hint of effervesence on the tongue. Spicy taste, with some of the breadiness in the background. Nice body. Very Nice!
