COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish that leads you to want to drink more and more of this beer!

Bottle, spicy hot rummy and floral hoppy aroma, some grand marinier too. Body is glossy dark golden color, short off white head. Flavor is tangy mildly dry hop, some candi sugar malt and some orange peel and stone fruit. Heat is hidden but kind of 1/2 hoppy and 1/2 belgian

"a dark, dry hopped beer...yummy. fairly unique brew, and even though dry hopped, not overly hopped, especially by Stone’s standards, as another rater noted. frsh re-releases after the 11th anniversary have gotten even better. the last two times i had this nice freshly hoppy dark brew, it’s been awesome

Bottle thanks to Rick. Pours a cloudy orange with no head. The aroma is strong yeast, clove, banana. Medium mouthfeel with nice resin, light spice, vanilla, oak, very good.

From my cellar Slightly hazy orange body with a small, fleeting white head. Fruity, candy aroma. The flavor is slightly sweet on the front with some dryness as it moves into the finish. OK, nothing bad, nothing outstanding.

Got a 22 oz. bottle in a trade with Skyview, thanks for the opportunity! This was the only vintage I was missing after The Lord Hobo 12-12-12 event. Color displayed is hazy orange amber color still a sold amount of carbonation. The hiss after popping the cap made me smile knowing this was going to fine. Aroma is all fruity notes of Belgian yeast. Old ripe mango, peach and light musty basement.

Flavor has the yeast taking over the majority of the flavor. Orange zest, light peach and hints of pepper up front. The pale malt base doesn’t show much oxidation, light tone of cardboard. But it doesn’t kill the overall flavors. The finish has a citrus zest that is found in the beginning of the sip, no bitterness at this point. No alcohol taste anywhere.Overall I was surprised how well this held up to the test of time. It truly speaks well of the series.

Pours a light orange color with a soapy white head. Good lacing. Aroma of tangerine, apple, Belgian yeast, and clove. Citrus fruit flavor with tangerine and some banana, pepper, and spice combine for a complex and very tasty brew. Wish I had more than one bottle.

On tap at Tribes Alehouse. Pour is hazy golden with no head. Aroma is caramel malts, light fruit, and pale malts. Flavor brings out more of the belgian qualities - yeast, banana, cloves, cane sugar, and grapefruit.

I get the hops here on the front side, and that’s impressive on account of the age of this bottle. There’s some pepper there, too. Golden, nice Belgian senses though not the best that Stone brews. Bottle.

Nice beer, just opened. Taste a touch on the watery side but overall superior. Pours hazy dark amber with great head and lacing. Smells of tangerine and some hay-like musk. Taste slightly bitter and sour. Some peel like astringency. Bottle thanks to Boutip.

Reviewed 12.12.12 Celebrating the Vertical Epic Series P: Clear pale golden body with a thin layer of white head that leaves delicate lacing. S: Citrus hops, honeydew, ginger, light banana phenols, spices, pippali pepper sprinkled on honey, and lemon zest. T/M: Dirty earthy taste. White grapes, bitter apple peels, pippali pepper, pears, powdery yeast and a more vibrant flavor than the others in the series. The fresh ness really shines. Dry crisp full body with good carbonation and a clean finish of fruit rind bitterness. O: The amarilo hop character was surprisingly vibrant and brilliantly aged. The intense flavors offered a nicely developed golden ale. Very nice and great drinkability. Serving type: bottle
