The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish that leads you to want to drink more and more of this beer!

2008 bomber, Brandon’s house, split 3 ways. Thanks, Brandon. Spectacularly good Belgian strong. Textbook perfection plus more, with added spicy peppery notes, cloves, and Banana, plus a nice dose of hops. This aged remarkably well and at 5 year old it tasted shockingly fresh. I don’t usually go crazy for Belgians but this was right up my alley.

Hoppy nose as soon as you pop the top and pour it into a glass. Definitely a more hoppy Belgian style. Theres some sweetness from the Belgian yeast, bubblegum and clove. Taste is hoppy and sweet. It’s a really awesome combination of dry hop bitterness mixed with a sweet bready, classic Belgian taste. Dry finish, almost bone dry. Overall this is a super solid beer. I can definitely see where Cali Belgique came from. There’s enough going on to make it interesting and stray away from being a run of the mill beer. Of course this is a Stone beer so they usually do a good job of keeping things interesting. Cheers.

Pours a heavily carbonated clear golden yellow with a medium fluffy white head. The aroma is bread, yeast, floral hops, some spice. The taste is quite complex. I pick up lots of yeast and more of a brown bread in the flavor. There is taste of dark fruits, some floral and earthy hops with a bit of spice. The alcohol is masked quite well and I also pick up some citrus notes in as well.

650mL bottle 2015 Encore series. From Slowbeer. Bottled on 09/02/15 Golden body, quite clear, creamy white head is persistent. Moderate aroma; sweet light caramel malts, white pepper phenolics, ripe pear & summer fruits, Body is smooth, creamy, moderate carbonation. Quite a lovely palate with smooth sweet pale malts atop notes of ripe pear esters, subtle peppery phenolic spice and hints of citrusy hops. Bitterness low (by Stone standards), easy going finish. Not really what I expected, but a very enjoyable beer nonetheless.

Anniversary version. Very sweet. Limited head. The Belgian yeast character is full flavored but not too intense. Some hop flavor in there but little to no bitterness. Hops are on the floral side. Gold and clear as can be. Light bodied.

Pours a clear golden with no head. A white island of bubbles sits atop. Bubblegum and light spice on the nose. Mild fine carbonation on the tongue with just a bit more of a burn in the back of the throat. Medium- to full-bodied and gets moderately astringent. Bubblegum flavor right away. Some spiciness is noted as well.

Aromas of hey, lemon grass, coriander, wheat, citrus, lemon zest and noticeable hops. Pours a bright gold with a very thin white foam. Taste brings crisp malt, apple juice, caramel, vanilla, coriander, wheat, grains, Belgian yeast, funk, esters and crackers. Dry finish with noticeable hop presence and oils. Overall,a very unique brew with various flavors.

Probably the worst beer I’ve ever tasted from Stone. Aroma of gasoline with a hint of Belgian yeast and hops. Pours a pale straw color with a short lasting white well laced head. Taste of gasoline, hops and Belgian yeast with a dry feel light body and a chalky hops finish.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with some white head. Nose is very Saison like. Banana, pepper and maybe a little eucalyptus. More orange and Belgian yeast in the taste. Some bitterness in the aftertaste.
