In 2008, Stone Brewmasters Steve Wagner and Mitch Steele traveled to Belgium, where they enjoyed a number of hop-forward Belgian tripels, pale ales and IPAs—beers that had taken a cue from the U.S. craft brewing movement and inspired us in return. It’s a big reason 2008’s summer season came to be known at Stone as our “Summer of the Triple.” Upon their return, they crafted Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale, the seventh beer in the 11-beer Stone Vertical Epic Ale series. Packed with floral, spicy essence from Belgian yeast plus plenty of hoppy New World character, it’s our West Coast take on hop-driven Belgian beers.

Bottled. Pours a clear, maybe slightly hazy, gold colour with big carbonation driving a nice white head. Some lacing. Big citrus aroma of pineapple and grapefruit. REALLY easy to drink, nice spice blended well with some more citrus flavour, alcohol and a nice warming finish. Great for the style.

Clear golden and with a firm head. Nose is rich with banana and toffee together with sweet malty notes. Taste is also fresh and rich with a long palate of fruity notes.

Bottled on 8/26/15. Belgian funky fresh notes. Golden copper with thick white head. Nice bread and banana front with clear bitter bite. Classic belgian ale.

Sample at BGM 2016. Golden beer with aroma of bubble gum, medium bodied, lots of malty sweetness.

Nice and fresh aroma of citrus and hops. Clear golden color with a lacy white head, looks like a lager (scarry). Taste a bit light, could be somewhat more hoppy and some bitternes is missing for me. Nice overall, but slightly disapointing, or maybe I was expecting too much.

Tap at Republic Seven Corners. Tulip glass on the patio with blonderedhead. Attractive golden orange color with a decent white head. Not a lot of lacing. Aroma is citrus and banana with a little bit of yeast funk. Taste is very solid with a balance of hoppy bitterness, a spicy, peppery characteristic, and a malt undertone. Enjoyable sweetness comes into play. Citrus rind a little bit towards the end. Finish is clean and professional. Stone succeeds again and all the more impressive given this isn’t necessarily the brewer’s specialty. Glad they brought it back for an encore.

Draft at Ellyn’s Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL., and large snifter served showing a hazed, ruby highlighted amber/gold color, with a presentably lingering layer of off white head foam, and wavy spray as lacing. The nose was dried fruit, pit fruit, touches of citrus & cherry, sweetness & spice, and ready alcohol presence. Medium+ bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste included an earthy & rind-like bitterness that was lingering, and tempered some by the fruit sweetness that also added subtle tropical notions. A hefty, satisfying Strong Ale that showed increasing warmth as it rested a bit.

Tap na BGM. Świetne połączenie strony słodowej i chmielowej w smaku. Wprost dostaje się "na twarz" wpływy i belgijskie i amerykańskie w tym piwie. Aromat tego nie zapowiada, jest minimalnie słabszy. Fajne piwo.
