Good tight, beige head and excellent ring lace. Nearly black color where no light can shine through.
Dark malt aromas with a light yeast smells in the background. Light yeast.
Very strong alcohol warmth on the initial sip. Relatively thin body with a low level of carbonation. Burnt coffee flavor with a hop kick which shows up nicely in the swallow and aftertaste. Lots of yeast bite as well.

Jan 4, 2010 Bottled. Very dark brown coloured with a light red gleam. Brown head. Aroma of cocoa, spice, light herbs, light chocolate. Flavour of chocolate, spice, medicin and cocoa. Medium to full bodied. Dry cocoa end.

Jan 4, 2010 Bottle. Near black color, brown head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and some hints of yeast. Notes of toffee also. Flavour is really malty, with cocoa, coffee, toffee and vanilla. Rather sweet, but still balanced. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Fullbodied. Carbonation is soft and nice. A very nice and tasty beer.

Jan 3, 2010 Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some pretty good lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt with some notes of roasted malt though bitterness is pretty tame. Taste is quite enjoyable with lots of black chocolate notes with a nice touch of roasted malt - not sure I could taste the vanilla or orange notes. Body is about average with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done though a bit shy of character and I still have to wonder how this is going to improve with time.

Jan 3, 2010 Bottle 65 cl. Pours an opaque, pitch black with a rich, beige head. Sweet vanilla aroma with a little yeast. Solid body, some hard roasted malts and a whiff of yeast - not very Belgian at all. Hard roasted malt and a little vanilla. Dry, malt biter finish. 030110

Jan 3, 2010 Bottle. Small brown thick head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Black color. Aroma of fruit, mild toasted malt, mild spice. Over the palate came almost roasted malt, liquorish, yeast. Medium to almost full bodied with an average carbonation and light alcoholic texture. Moderated sweet flavor with some counter bitterness. Lingering malty and light fruity finish.

Jan 1, 2010 Very unique brew. Pours opaque black, brownish head. The flavors are multilayered with dark fruits, orange, espresso, cocoa, roasted malt. The finish is very dry, almost a chalky cocoa flavor with a long lingering roasted flavor. I wish I had bought more.

Jan 1, 2010 This beer has it all. Pours dark brown like a porter/stoudt. Some citrus notes on the nose with a deeper lush malt base during the mid palate. deep mouthfeel shows notes of chocolate and espresso with some light hints of brunt orange. The finish is long and shows the notes of the hops.
