Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

20061007 Tap at Kennett, also multiple bombers. This one hasn’t really done it for me except for the very cool bottle. Lots of piney, resinous, but somewhat armpit-ish hops are dominant. A bit tending toward the thin side for such a big beer, and maybe too dominant hops throughout are distracting. Sweet without backbone to hold it up...I remember first trying big SoCal iipas and thinking that I’d never grow into them and this beer reminds me of those days. Seems all about the bitter and not quite enough about the beer. Still, for a big sucker it was worth a few tries and not one to kick out of bed if seeking a big C-hop fix.

A March Madness ’08 beer, courtesy Fordest. Pours a lightly hazy, medium orange amber. A frothy, bubbly, cream colored head shows good retention, leaving thick swaths of lacing all the way down the glass. The nose is quite malty at this point, with huge notes of caramel and buttery toffee coming through. Citrusy and piney hops are bold, but clearly aren’t what they were when they were fresh. Some whipping cream adds a sweet, feathery element to the aroma. Alcohol is quite detectable. Flavors are very barley wine-esque now, with the buttery toffee malts having taken over what was clearly once a massive hop profile. The medium-full, syrupy body is somewhat prickly and hot on the way down. Finishes with long, resinous hop notes. I would love to have had the opportunity to try this one fresh. As it stands, its a pretty solid IIPA/barley wine hybrid. Another solid brew from Stone.

Amber with a small white head. Sweet and fruity tones. Sweet fruits and malty taste. Full body with a nice, balanced finish.

A heavy IPA that’s great. Amazing hop flavor that shows they’ve improved on their quality.

Bottle shared with Blankboy, Hogtown Harry, and Garthicus, blankboy’s bottle. I did not realize I had missed this one so this is a nice score. Hazy orange, foamy orange tinted white head. Very unique hoppy aroma - almost like resiny hops mixed with blue cheese? Is this the age? Taste features very chewy malt balanced nicely with a ton of hops that have just started to mellow. Quite orange fruity in the finish. Alcohol certainly still present, especially as it warms. Great foamy creamy mouthfeel. A strong assertive DIPA.

Thanks so much Blankboy for this!!! I am so excited to try this. Hazy amber colour, small white head, huge hop-malt aroma, sweet, so sweeeet, mouth is salivating just awaiting the taste. Well worth the wait, almost chewy, sweet; hoppy, my tongue is tingling, there is just so much going on, spicy and sweet literally juicy. Amazing, simply amazing. Makes me want to invent a time machine to go back and buy a dozen upon release, thank you so so much Paul
