Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

This is one of the best limited releases yet from stone. Pours a bright orange with a medium fine white head. The 10% alcohol takes center stage here and is quite prominient in both the aroma and the flavor. But it is not out of balance. Huge hop aroma abounds with lots of dark citrus and woodsy resin characteristics--high bitterness as well. The body is thick and a little syrupy with lots of malt sweetness. This reigns in the alcohol reasonably well. Overall, this beer is an experience to behold--and should last for some time in the cellar. Seek it out. It’s something special.

Medium sized tan head, fair retention with a stringy lace. Hazy, copper hued brew. Nose of faint hops, fruit, citrus, some peach notes, a little mango and sweet malts. Body is med/full but does,nt have that resiny feel of a big DIPA. Big, sweet caramel malts, some graininess, juicy, fruity hop flavors with notes of pine, grapefruit and a litttle bubble gum. Finish is lightly sweet malts, lightly perfumey. Alcohol is well hidden though. Needs more bite in the finish. A gentle gargoyle.

Had this brew and was really excited for it yet it really kinda sucked. It isnt that old yet it tasted very aged and bland. Dominated with over the top boring malts. I was unipressed. I love all the old stuff from stone, but pick it up already, this one isnt up to your normal standards. I have 1 more bottle, hopefully i just had a bad one and the other is true.

Biscuity and toasty malts with plenty of floral, citrus (grapefruit, tangerine) hop notes in the aroma. Opaque tan-orange coloured body is topped by a decent white head that recedes to a lasting cover with some lacing. Very sweet and malty with strong floral, citrus hop flavour and pronounced bitterness. Medium body with moderate to lively carbonation. Sometimes exactly what you expect is exactly what you want. Very enjoyable. Bottle enjoyed with BeerPrince, CapFlu, frink and Oakes.

#960, Bottle, sampled at the Champaign Urbana Beer Club meeting in December of 2006. Clearer with some hazyness, thin white quickly discipating head. Nose is very hoppy with lots of great malts, taste more kick of hops but sweet and very piney with lots of sugar. Great beer.

After waiting awhile to try this one out (there was a lot of good and bad reviews about it) I was able to try it at our December tasting. The aroma smelled like cat piss. Don’t know how else to say it. Cat piss with a bit of pine thrown in. Appearance was a deep orange color, nice head. Mouthfeel was full and a bit sharp. Flavors were just a little too sweet for my liking. It was hoppy, yes but I didn’t find a nice balance like I did with Ruination. Overall, a good beer but I think I’ll stick with Ruination.

Thanks “the man” Jason for the bottle!

Pours a deep hue of cherry wood and a thick ivory cap, a plastered lacing. The aroma is insanely floral but dense with thick sweet malt. Loads of caramel and everyday waffle syrup, some raspberry Pop-Tarts. Immensely fruity; plums, red apples, peaches, apricots all in preserve form. The Hops are extreme and unyielding! Very citric and piney! The palate is very malleable and chewy, sticky and intense. This is truly a BIG F-ing Brew!
