rybowen (105), Los Angeles 90039, California, USA Oct 9, 2006 Nice color, beautiful tawny amber. Big, sweet beer with plenty of alcohol. In fact, alcohol and boozy aftertaste is the dominant non-hop flavor. Just the way I like it. Bitter, hoppy flavor with resiny citrusy notes and good aroma. Excellent, another home run for Stone.
Don’t drink more than one, I’m warning you... bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Oct 9, 2006 Floral, pine and citrus in the aroma. Orangy amber color. Very little head, but lots of tiny bubbles. Seems to start with grapefruit, then some malty sweetness, then on to pineness. That evergreen aroma may be a little more cedar than pine. Certainly smells well. The high alcohol tends to dominate the finish. Really excellent. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Oct 9, 2006 Sugar, Sugar and more sugar. A beer that does not live up to the Stone or IPA monikers. A one note wonder of a beer, see above sugar comment. Hot alcohol and overly sweet palate bordering on cloying. Bittering hops in abundance with very littly nose or flavor from late addition hopping. A very lacluster and mundane effort from a typically very good brewery. hiphops (280), caldwell, New Jersey, USA Oct 9, 2006 looks like everyother imp ipa. highly floral and spicy bouquet. with a hint of grapefruit and sexy chick b.o. the kind that makes your john thomas pop up and say hey whats going on over here???? the flavor is aight. very floral with a high alchol finish not really bitter just lingering alcohol. loweredsixth (942), Fresno, California, USA Oct 8, 2006 Easily one of the best strong IPA’s I’ve ever had. I really think this thing is well balanced. There are massive citrusy tones in the aroma and flavor...grapefruit, orange, and lemon. There is not enough sweetness (thankfully so) to make this a barleywine, and the alcohol is barely noticeable. I am happy with this because I don’t think it’s "over the top." To me, this is an improvement over their regular IPA, and maybe even Ruination. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Oct 8, 2006 bottle. copper pour with creamy head. I can smell the hops from a foot away. nice maltiness and powerful citrus round out the nose.
Full bodied. great caramel malts with big hops and citrus bitter bite. carbonation is lively. caramel and sugars linger in the aftertaste. Great brew to celebrate their 10th. Congrats and thank you. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 7, 2006 Bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Pours a sunset orange topped by a nice frothy off-white head and excellent lacing. The nose displays juicy fruit and floral hops, caramelized malt, sugar, clove and pepper, a strange smoky vapour about and a heavy earthy yeast ester. The taste starts with a smack down of bitterness but is followed up quickly with a heavy handed dose of sweet malt and a crunching alcohol presence. This beer is more akin to a young barleywine than a IIPA due to the large amount of sugars left behind. The finish is peppery and astringent with some candy stickiness. The mouth feel is rough and raw, aggressive and brash. Will be interesting to see how this ages out. alwayshalffull (3), longview, Washington, USA does not count Oct 6, 2006 the best bottled ipa i have had to date
there are only 3 ipa’s that i like better and none of them are bottled
