JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 2, 2006 Reddish rust clear body, soapy fairly thin white head.
Full hop nose with honey malt and lemon coughdrop hints.
Taste is good but seemingly unrefined. Seems sweeter than I expected, with honey and citrus juice, odd vanilla wood. Its odd, it seems like I don’t like it, yet I do. Flavor is great and drinkable.
lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA Oct 1, 2006 So very one dimensional. Probably the hoppiest IIPA i’ve had. Little bit of toasted malt flavor 15 minutes later after the intense hop bitterness wears off. Maybe it’ll improve when the hops die down a little but right now i was not impressed. Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 1, 2006 Bottle. Poured hazy copper color with an average rocky off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Heavy caramel malt and sour citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Heavy smooth balanced flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Oct 1, 2006 Bottle 54F. Tulip. Very large aroma, lots of rich dark pine, and full malts. A Sparkling amber color with a nice off white head that lasts reasonably well, with light lacing. Wow, a ton of hops that run all over the place, Spicy pine, sets on top of dark green grass flavors, it’s almost overwhelming to the palate. The alcohol is quite hidden as is much of the malt profile. After a few minutes of letting your tongue rest, a light malt presence can be detected. Truly a mega dose of hops, yet rather than one hop flavor being dominate, the variation of hops run all over the place. It’s also spicy as well. Nice carbonation and a good mouthfeel, helps to balance the power in this brew. This brew is really something quite nice. Thanks to Andrew Certain for the massive hook up. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2006 Amber/orange, with a white head. Aromas are oranges, grapefruit, and pine. Some sugar and malt, too. Flavors are oranges, grapefruit, malt, sugar, and alcohol. Nice now, but should still improves with age. frink (467), coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada Sep 30, 2006 Pours an orange amber colour with no head. Big grapefruit, orange hop aroma sweetly malty as well. The taste is a duel between the hops and the malt. Thick viscous mouthfeel. A big and beautiful beer. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Sep 29, 2006 Updated: Aug 30, 2007Thanks to after4ever for this one. #4/10 for anyone who cares. I used to love all the Stone beers but I’ve really lost interest in them lately. I had pretty low expectations for this but still wanted to try it. Clear dark amber body with a large white head and solid lacing. Aroma is a blast of Simcoe hops (which I lost interest in after Weyerbacher’s IIPA) with some caramel backing. Big fruity (peach, tropical fruits, grapefruit), piney, spicy hops. This is way too sweet to be an IIPA. The malts are sloppy and sugary. Some enjoyable flavors here, but it’s mostly a mess of them. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Sep 29, 2006 Bottle. Clear amber in color with a nice fluffy white head. Grapefruity piney earthy peppery hops. Caramel toffee notes. Hoppy flavor. Orange and grapefruity hops. Very hoppy. Well balanced flavor. Sweet tasting. Crisp and refreshing. There is some noticeable alcohol as it warms up. Full bodied. Finish is crisp and hoppy. Drinkable. Very enjoyable.
