freekyp (900), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA Sep 25, 2006 The mother of all double IPAs, this plodding behemoth stinks of earthy piney hop character. Standing tall atop the murky amber body, the ample thick beige head sticks around a good long while and leaves it footprint amply on the glass. Sweet malt is in there too, but the bitter hop whallop on the end makes short work of this. The high alcohol content is VERY apparent. A second. Don’t even think about it. Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Sep 25, 2006 Hazy dark amber. Woody, oxidized hops in the nose. Big chewy flavour, herbal, minty hop notes. Caramel, lots of alcohol. Quite a bit of bitterness and residual sweetness. A big bag of intense. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 24, 2006 I immediately salivated when I saw this awesome painted bottle on a shelf in Colorado ... This poured dark, yet glimmeringly orange with a big rocky top. It gave a big fruity-malt aroma. Wow ... this is a chewy one ... almost liquid granola. Big earthy and leafy, full of hop oil. Big, big beer from a big, big brewer. Awesome. dhlesq (233), Thousand Oaks, California, USA Sep 24, 2006 Aroma of pine, grapefruit, peach, apricot, and fresh flowers. Appears a deep golden color with a mountainous yellow creamy head that lasts. Flavor is grapefruit, pine resin, honey, and malt. Palate is medium thick and lovely. Overall, a phenomenal double IPA and even better than my expectations. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA Sep 24, 2006 22oz bomber courtesy of Brock Landers’ cooler: heading to the Florida State-Rice game, John cracked open this gem. Poured a crystal clear orange with a full tan head. Full hop aroma and lots of caramel. Flavor was mildly sweet with hops and caramel. Light citrus and pine as it warmed. Good beer. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2006 From bomber. Pours a deep, clear orange amber with frothy off white head. Massively hopped nose assaults your senses with sharp pine and grapefruit. Flavor follows with malt struggling in the background. Herbal hops with a little alcohol as well. Slightly thick palate with a medium bitter finish. A hop mountain! This is boarder line too much hops (which I never thought I’d say). I’ll lay one down to see what happens. FezMonkey (268), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 24, 2006 Nice amber color with a medium sized lasting head with an orange tint. Wonderful grapefruit & floral aroma. Sweet hoppy flavor with some spice. Medium body and leave you with a clean palate. Nel (180), Virginia, USA Sep 23, 2006 Pours out a ight amber. The smell of this beer is probobly it’s best attribute. The amount of floral fruity piney smell that they packed into this brew is really something. Definently one of the best beers I have smelled. It doesn’t taste quite as good, but that doesn’t mean it’s a flavor slouch. Lots of malts and hops, in a fairly traditional stone manner. Some interesting pine bitterness is at the forefront. It finishes with a malty caramel flavor that I enjoyed a good bit. Overall it’s more than I was expecting from this brew, and it’s good to see that stone still has some tricks up their sleeve. I could go either way on whether this is better than ruination. Definently a great effort on the part of stone, but I don’t think this beer quite belongs in the 99 percentile.
