verymerrymonk (187), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 23, 2008 Pours a dark gold body with thin tan head. Very sweet, almost syrupy up front with dry grapefruit on the back end. Maybe a little grassy hop left, but for the most part the hops have dissipated. Big malty brew. This was probably incredible fresh, for now its pretty darn good though.
KieferUGA (302), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 19, 2008 Rating #300. Bottle courtesy of golubj and alexanderj. Shared during the 4th of July Beer Bash with kleyland and alexanderj. I first had the opportunity to sample this beer the night before my wedding. Unfortunately, I drank a bottle of DFH 120 Minute IPA just before and wasn’t thinking clearly. Somehow, I managed to mix a Stone 10th with a Southampton Anniversary beer. I thought a proper rating of this beer was all but a lost cause. Imagine my surprise when I found out a bottle had been found.
Now onto the beer. Pours a copper color. Malty aroma. Light, off white head. Big malty flavor. Most of the hops have dropped out of this beer, but it still was very enjoyable. Finish was strong, astringent alcohol. Nice beer and glad to finally taste this. nbutler11 (40), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 13, 2008 Sampled this recently and it tasted almost like biting into a bitter orange. However, it’s intensity quickly mellowed into a very tasty IPA -- described as fellow tasters as closer to a barleywine. GMCC2181 (308), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 10, 2008 Bottle from mashmaster and bigern! Thanks guys! A highly anticipated brew that did not let me down. Amber in color, decent head. Aroma is lots of citrus and piney hops. Flavor is a strong balance of hops and malt. Very hoppy and malty at the same time... No trace of the ten percent alcohol. Low carbonation, above average texture that also has a stickyness to it. Overall a solid beer! Well worth seeking out. badbeer (391), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Pours a nice amber color with an eggshell colored head. Head has great retention and leaves spotty lacing as well. Smell has a rich scent of pine and grapefruit, leaning more towards the pine-like and resiny aromas. I also get a hint of malt, but it’s hidden beneath the bouquet of hops. Taste starts out grapefuity and leads into more pine, but I get more grapefruit and citrus in the taste than in the nose. Taste is full of hops but definately has a strong malt backbone to it with some alcohol warmth in the finish. Carbonation is at about medium levels and the body feels rich and full. Drinkability is good; I could drink plenty of this and wish I had more of it. In comparison to a strict definition of IIPA, this leads more towards the barley wine side being as how a barley wine tends to have more body and a IIPA would be expected to have a more dry finish. Either way I thought this was an excellent beer! DenverLogan (420), Oceanside, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Ruby red and orange color with small head. Big lovely orange and hop aroma. Very strong flavor...bold hops and strength, some caramel, white pepper, clove, bitter fruit rind, alcohol, hop resins, grapefruit hops. From a growler but I’ve had it many times on tap and in the bottle.
