Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Deep balmy mahogany tone with a mild whitish head. Very sweet and alcoholic on both the nose and the finish. Almost too sweet for my preference. Heat from alcohol emanates as immense bitterness lingers with malted spine for minutes after each taste. This is definitely an anniversary beer, for drinking it more than once every ten years would ruin a person’s taste buds and liver. Quite interesting still.

Draft at Duck Island. Pours a clear bright copper with a creamy white head. Citrus and fruit nose: grapefruit, oranges, peaches with a little floral influence. Full, creamy sweet body with moderate carbonation. The taste is sweet grapefruit over pineapple with oranges, mangoes and the occasional tangerine in the mix. Mildly bitter grapefruit finish with the occasional sprig of pine and a flower or two. This stuff is amazing! A hugely hoppy West Coast DIPA with hoppy complexity, but without the smack you upside the head bitterness.

This is one of the best double India Pale Ales I’ve ever had. Aroma of pine, citrus fruits and hops.....of course. Flavor is a perfect balance between malts and hops. I wish they would not limit this to a specialty brew....;(

22 oz. bottle - Pours a clear deep amber color with a good size off white head. The head leaves some nice lacing on the way down. Aroma is sweet, citrus, fruit, and resiny. Very nice. Flavor is heavy. Lots of fruit flavoring to go along with the hops. There is some residual caramel malt sweetness. No unpleasant aftertaste. A somewhat smooth, full bodied beer. An excellent beer. After 4 of of these, I felt the numbers should be raised a bit. This is a damn good beer. Dreadnaught isn’t the king daddy anymore.

Bottle: Clear, orange/copper colored pour with a small white head. Aroma, citrus and caramel. There are some resinous earthy pine notes as well. Flavor, sweet on the tounge to start, but the bitterness really kicks in. Caramel and toffee, go with some piney, fruity hop notes. There is a sharp lingering bitterness. I have only two complaints about this beer, the three liter bottles didn’t make it to Ohio. And it sold out too quickly for me to get more than a couple bottles.

Bottle courtesy of DrJay on BA. Pours a rich amber color with a big offwhite head and some light lacing. Smell is malty with caramel like sweetness along with some sweet citrus. Little to no hop prensence left. Taste is caramel, alcohol, and candied orange peels. Somewhat surprised that the hops have basically entirely faded and that the alcohol is still this present. Decent, but not what it was intended to be any longer, I’m guessing.

A very rich hops aroma from a slight hazed orange/red pour. The malt aroma comes through clearly but the hops dominate. A sweet maltiness and hops flavor come into play here. A nice beer that has that alcohol warmth that makes a beer special. I really like beers that are sweet and have an alcohol warmth going on. This beer does. Call me a Stone whore but so far I like all their beers mucho.

Bottle from BevMo La Mesa. Pours a medium to dark amber color. Minimal head. Sticky sweet candy aroma. Syrupy hoppy scent as well. Fruit smelling. Bursting with hoppiness upon sipping. Big and bold. Sweet and malty as well as sticky and hoppy. Some spicy bitterness towards the finish. Very rich and very bold. Well hidden alcohol. Good beer that has a sweetness that kind of drags towards the end.
