Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Pours a very lightly hazy golden orange amber with a bubbly/creamy off white lacing head that sustained. Aroma...wow love that hop aroma. Various citrus, mostly orange, fruity, floral, some light pine and caramel malt. Simcoe in the dry hop is the way to go. Flavor does a great job at matching the aroma. That orange, pine mix with the great malt balance that came across as a sweet caramel with some grains and a touch of nuts. Light ABV presence that became more noticeable as it warmed. Beers like this is why IIPA is my favorite style. Drink this one young as the hop aroma is great and not something you want to let "settle out".

The piney aroma, sticky sweetness and full on bold mouthfeel make this what Ruination should be. Theres some oranges and honey flavors along with apricot and caramel. This beer really rocks and should be year round. No knock on Ruination but this rocks.

Bottle at jsquire’s. Extremely small head that mostly diminished, splotchy lacing, hazy, no carbonation noted, and an orange grown hue. Nose was very nice--malty, caramel, hoppy, pine, fruity, and alcohol. Ditto for the flavor along with a rich taste to it and a dry finish. Mouthfeel was tingly and dry. Medium in body. Very quaffable, nicely done, came together very well, not one of my favorite styles since I am not a hophead; however, I truly enjoyed drinking this one and would drink it again if it came my way. Definitely worthy of a try!

Bottle. Pours a gorgeous copper with sturdy manilla foam bunched up around the left side of the glass. Nose is extremely piney and resinous. Lots of evergreen notes, strong grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple. The alcohol also comes through and feels a bit intrusive at times. The liquid itself coats the palate with slick oily hops, astrigent citric acids, and sticky pine sap. Lingering bitterness throughout. The fruits blend well with the pine while malts flounder in the background. Ends with even more hop notes, pine sap, soft maple notes, citrus fruits, alcohol, pineapple and almost some earthy notes. This is a big beer and rather delicious!

Bottle at The Wit’s End in San Diego, CA. I have a few bottles cellaring so I thought why not have it for the first time out. This is an extremely hoppy brew. It pours a light straw with a large head. It is extremely fragrant with a severly hoppy aroma. This brew is hops hops hops, and more hops, it is quite smooth for a 10% but has a serious kick. The aroma is the best part, the beer tastes nice but is not very complex it is pure hops. Good work Stone on another fine brew, though some might fall short this is a fine I-IPA

Bottle via trade. Fluffy white head. Very dark orange beer. Spicy earthy hop nose. Heavy start to the flavour but lightens up. Spicy hop and malt body. Has a cool undefinable quality and very present alcohol.

Bottled. Big thanks to Per! Pours out in a hazy reddish orange colour with a low, sticky white foam. Hoppy and citric aroma of grapefruit, bloodoranges with sweet resinous piney notes. Full, hoppy and bitter flavour pine-needles, grapefruit, lemon-zest and caramel. Long hoppy finish of grapefruit and wet grass with sweet undertones of caramel and bloodoranges. But the hops still dominates . Well-hiden alcohol. Great!

September 9th 2006 bottle with nearly two years of age. This stuff is at its prime. Thick pour leaves a medium sized, rocky off-white head covering a hazy toffee colored body. Nice lacing left by the head. Smells like a nice barely wine with tons of toffee, caramel, plums and some faded hops and alcohol. Wow, taste is increadible, with caramel and lots of it, followed by alcohol then some light and faded citrus hop bitterness and a bit more malt and fruit (fresh juicy oranges mingle with plums, raspberries and rasins) in the finish. Perfectly aged, and at its prime. Light alcohol warming with a creamy mouthfeel and very faint bubbles. A great aged IIPA. I would buy a lot more of this, but I feel it won’t improve much beyond another year. To me, it its current state, it reminds me a lot of Old Guardian, only better!
