Nose is very hoppy and acrid with a nice fruit hints noted and citrus. Tangy zesty and refreshing on the mid to end taste finishing cleanly. Good end bitters on the swallow. Body is smooth and full. The best IPA I have ever had. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 28, 2006 This is a great-looking beer - big, soapy off-white head, nicely hued with a dark, reddish copper. Full, extremely floral, hoppy aroma - crisp, fresh hops, almost as if it went through the dogfish randall thingie. The flavor is very well-balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness to balance the extreme bitterness. It is not syrupy at all, which some of the Imperial IPA’s have a problem with. Not this one. Definetly a good, smooth anniversary beer. Brewso (238), Mt Kisco, New York, USA

Nothing could be farther from the truth. The taste alternates between sharp and spicy and sweet, round, full fruit. There is a wonderfully broad range of flavors in this ipa that truly highlights a thougtful combination of malt and hops. I have had a lot of double ipas as it is one of my favorite styles, but Stone consistently adds a transcendent dimension that makes me pray for the day they distribute in Minnesota. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Mahogany with a foamy head that dissapates quickly. Some spots of lace adorn the glass. The nose is overpowering. Hops abound in this one! There is a great aroma of grapefruit citrus and pine. It’s almost like mango, really. There is a strong sweetness in the background. The flavor assaults you with hops. I just can’t get away from these brews this weekend! With all the IPA/DIPAs from last night coupled with this, I am sure that I simply sweat hops. Mango again, maybe another tropical fruit. Honey is in there with the caramel malts. Reminds me of honey and oatmeal kind of. Thick, sticky, and chewy. Leaves a nice bitter, fuzzy feeling in the mouth. This is a nice beer. I wholly agree with papajohn. Greg, you must brew this again!!! ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

Pours out an orange color with a huge white head. Smell is grass, hops, oranges, grapefruit, and more hops. Taste is sweet and lightly carbonated. Complex, fruity, and full or oranges, the alcohol isnt even apparent in this beer, unlike the Bells I just drank. I cant wait to see where this one ends up after having more than 300 ratings. This reminded me alot of Weyerbacher 11, and if you dont like 11, im not sure how you could like this one as there are a ton of similarities. Very nicely balanced IPA, and proves the reason that I always order stones anniv beers. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Screaming out load aroma, enormous pine and citrus, fantastic fruit, graperfruit, tropicals, big and fat and fruituous (is that a word?)...me, I like it. Wow.
Taste: Same, and then some. Big, fat, loud and proud citric fruit sour bitter hop domination. That’s all. Don’t like it? There’s the door...
Smackitty, smack, there’s the hops on the attack...don’t mess with them.
Wow. This is a devil of an DIPA. Damnably delicious. No complaints here.

Aroma is full of citrus, some pine, malt, some spice and candy. Flavor has a hop rush up front, then some sweetness and then an alcohol burn. Tastes like a kicked up Arrogant Bastard, Old Guardian and a Belgian combined. The ABV got very intense as it warmed. This was great but will be better with age. hayduke (1693), Eureka, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 11, 2006 22 oz bottle purchased and poured here behind the Redwood Curtain. I have a lot of respect for our local craft brewers but Stone is the standard they need to strive to equal. Some come close but there is still a little room to grow. For an IPA fan this is siimply incredible. Deep copper color with a big tan head that lasted 10 minutes and left great lacing in the glass. Very complex hoppy nose. I loved the bitterness, but it might be a little over the top even for IPA fans. Had I not know what I was drinking I might not have been quite as impressed, but I knew this was an IPA, and from Stone as well. I expected it to kick butt, and so it did. Great finish. I have got to make it back to my local COOP for more before it is all gone. Thanks Stone, you have done it again.
