COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Sampled this recently and it tasted almost like biting into a bitter orange. However, it’s intensity quickly mellowed into a very tasty IPA -- described as fellow tasters as closer to a barleywine.

11 oz pour at City Beer, during their Stone 20th anniversary event. Oily copper golden pout with a thin fizz head. Hop heavy aroma from a distance with a noticeable booziness. A dominant tropical fruit profile. Full of pineapple. Some imperial heat to linger in the finish, but doesnít overpower. Drinks nice as an overall. Solid stuff.

Tapped at the Stone tasting room in San Diego. Clear copper color. Thick soapy head. Aroma of malt, sweet fruits of the forest, citrus. Taste mirrors the aroma plus good bitter hops. Boozy, warming alcohol. Nice double IPA.

Growler fill from brewery in Escondido. Actually had the original version at Stoníe Winter Storm several years ago, but lost my notes from that time. I got heavily into craft beer around Stoneís 11th or 12th anniversary, so this was a little before my time. POURS a clear amber hue with one finger of white foam. AROMA of woody and piney hops, green tea, some bright citrus and tropical fruit notes, moving into additional notes of dank hops and cat piss. FLAVOR of mild pine resin, overripe tropical fruit (pineapple stands out), tangerine rind, all over a layer of sweet-ish honey malts that lends a nice balance here. Remarkably smooth and the big 10% is really well concealed here, lending this an air of drinkability that may not actually be there. No doubt a really big deal a decade ago when it first came out. And a big improvement over the 5th Anniversary that I had a few days ago. Stoneís encore series lets us see the evolution of the (D)IPA over the years. (586, 1042)

Had two nice glasses of this tonight at Bittercreek... Fresh and super tasty... Every bit as good as I remember it.... Bright pine and fruity.. tangerine citrus zest... just enough pale malt to balance... Bitter, but not overwhelming... incredibly drinkable given the big ABV. Huge winner 10 years later. Cannot wait for bottles of this to arrive in Boise.

Draft at Bitter Creek. Copper pour, small frothy head. Woody, puny aroma. Malts become a bit more prevslent in the taste. A bit more like the DIpAs we know and love today.

to be fair, i think i had this 2006 beer past itís prime (1/09), but itís all i have to go on...still pretty good, although the hops have mellowed too much and it tasted and had the body of a hoppy barleywine as opposed to an imperial ipa. i bet it was awesome in 06 or 07!"

Bottle. Toffee malts, light earthy notes, some faint rustic grainy notes, and moderate oxidation. Obviously past itís prime. Like a bad barleywine.

(bottle - 22 oz) We tried it knowing that thereíd be a chance it had gone south, and sadly it had. Turned from what was probably a big IPA into a huge malt bomb. Wasnít spoiled, just had literally no hops left.

Surprisingly balanced for a double IPA, especially one from Stone. Lots of bread malts partly balance out this citrus and resin beer.

Iím not a fancy beer person. I basically pick top rated beers and give em a try ( or beers with cool labels). Usually with top rated I am not disappointed however this is the exception. This beer was had some citrus to it maybe a liquid dawn kinda taste?? Not exactly sure and a second swig I pour it out. So sad.....
