COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Stone 11.11.11 Vertical Epic Ale proved to be an eccentric diversion from our previous lineup of innovative Belgian-inspired brews. And considering we’re Stone, that’s really saying something. This unprecedented beer was brewed with cinnamon sticks and Anaheim green chilies, giving it an amazing flavor profile unlike anything that came before it. It certainly didn’t need any enhancement, but we just don’t know when to leave well enough alone (and we’ve demonstrated before that you can, indeed, improve upon perfection). So we decided to tinker with it a bit and laid a small portion to rest in wine barrels. Not wanting to limit our experiment to only red or white wine barrels, we choose both. Treat yourself to a bottle of each and compare. All in the name of science, of course...

Bottle, shared at RBAG 2013. I’ll confess that I LOVED the original, which seemed to receive very mixed reviews from the userbase here. Very dark amber body. The aroma is unmistakably vinous, darkly sweet, with no real indication of the pepper component. The pepper appears on the palate however, adding a dry finish to a sweet, full-bodied beer characterized by lovely vinous malt structure. Very little spice compared to the original (I had detected cinnamon originally, but failed to notice any here). I loved this-- but I tend to love crazy creative foodie-type beers more than most.

This beer aged very well. It also had a great aroma and flavor profile. Cinnamon, chiles and the red wine barrels combine for a tremendous taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a murky reddish brown. Aroma is grapes, caramel, cherries, raisins, figs. Taste is caramel, raisins, grapes, figs, dates. Also some hints of soil, minerals, böackberries. Really good and has taken on some nice tones from the red wine barrels! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep hazy amber colour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, succeeded quickly by red wine and cinnamon scents. Taste is sweet throughout with a dry bitterness to it, a little bit of spice as well. Full body, smooth mouth feel, and softer carbonation. An enjoyable and unique brew overall.

Bottle. Hazy reddish brown with a fizzy off white head. Interesting red wine, caramel, pepper, and light chocolate aroma and taste with some subtle fruit and oak notes, a creamy palate, and a peppery warmth to the finish. Not bad.

Bottle c&c from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Fred’s the guy to watch for good beer. Pours dark ruddy copper with a transient beige/tan head. Aromas of chilies and red wine. Med + body. Flavor of chili, chocolate, and oaky red berry. Very nice. Nicely muddled flavors.

Draft. Poured a clear reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt, tannic wood and chilli peppers aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted tannic, sweet & hot flavor with a medium to heavy hot & sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectation where exceeded.
